Damn thing locked down my computer to all programs. Even took over admistrator rights. I could not do a restore or recovery. I had to reformat the drive and load every thing up again. Biggest pain is losing all my email contacts. Now I have my antivirus back up and going.

Did you not have a current AV program at the time?
Now that you have a fresh install, you would be wise to image the drive at it's current state provided you have an external HDD.
I found this (http://www.macrium.com/ReflectFree.asp) program and it works well and is free.

Thanks for the heads up. I actually bought an external hard drive a couple of monts ago. Backed up most of my stuff. My antivirus out of date by about 1 year. I just kept putting it off. Won't be doing that again.

Would you wear an opened 1 year old condom? ( don't answer that too truthfully)
Why make your PC do it?
Poor PC.

no, i just compute responsibly :D
im actually serious though. anytime someone brings me a computer i already know what's wrong with it before they say anything. "its gotten so slow, i think i have a virus". every computer i seem to touch is just running rampant with spyware and its literally crawling to do anything. i ask them if they have any data they need, if not i just format the SOB. i seriously have no idea where everyone goes to get all crap on their computer other than porn or myspace.
I cleaned up a friends PC last night, fkn thing was crammed full of spyware shit. Then i heard them say they go to myspace alot.....figures

One of my friends mom went to myspace and when she went to one of her kids profile, she got a virus. Someone hacked the script to dl a trojan and wrecked her pc. It had to formatted.

ftw!
Although on my Vista laptop I'm running Kasperksy I.S. and it's fantastic. Whatever you do, don't even think about using Norton or McAfee; they're heavy on resources and light on stopping power.

How do you like it? Does it have a firewall and parental controls? Right now I'm using Trend Micro I.S.2008 and I'm considering switching in October when it expires. I have a relatively large HDD and T.M. doesn't have the option to only scan new stuff and has been rather flakey as of late.

OR something a little less expensive if you have a DVD burner and most any recent version of NERO is to use Nero BackITup and burn a restore disc set onto DVD to fully restore the computer.
