I just got my bill today from Stream and it was $742!!!!!

There's no way I used 3580 KW this month!

I've attached a pic of my meter, the reader said the ending number was 1552, but I'm reading a number lower than that.

I'm thinking it was misread.

Post up what you read it as, because I'm in no way an expert at this...

Thanks

What was your reading last month? Those fuckers just turn around in a circle and they take the delta between the two readings.

03trubluGT
07-18-2008, 07:46 PM
The bill says that the end read is 1552.

I was gone for 4 days last month and upped the thermostat to 85, had my roof replaced and the powered vent fans taken out and ridge vents and whirly birds installed.

There's no FKKING way I used 3580 KW for the month!

So, should I call Oncor to come out and re-read and lower my bill, or just suck it up and pay it this month and pay a smaller bill next month hoping that next month they charge more than $0.1990 per KW so I can get some electricity at a lower rate????

I did, just after recieving last month's bill of $427  I had one unit down on freon and running just about 24/7.

That's why I'm so damned shocked about this one! I figured it had to be lower because of the service, removing the electric attic vent fans, and getting ridge vents and whirly birds!

Oncor is in charge of the meter reading, not Stream so you can call oncor and request a meter re read. If their reading was wrong they will not charge a trip charge and it will be cancel re-billed and you can call Stream to work through that. If it is a correct read, you will be billed a past through trip charge.

If you are on a month to month rate call Stream and lock in for a 1 year fixed NOW. Month to month rates across ALL electric companies are 18.5-25 cents per kwh. Lock it in for mid 15's for now if you can and you can go to streamfixedrate.com and lock it in I believe. If you have any other questions you can shoot me your acct # in a pm and I'll look into it tomorrow or monday when I get back in the office. I'll pull you historical usage from last year and see how it matches up to this current year. 3580 is a lot especially if you normally use 1k-2kish.

One other thing to remember that alot of people do not realize is the fact that last year was an incredibly mild summer where electric rates were low on top of the fact that usage was WAY down compared to previous years. So you roll in the fact of soaring energy prices (Across the board) along with a much warmer summer is killing some people who were not paying attention and really killing those with month to month contracts where the rate is steadily climbing.

My brother got a bill for $851 for the month of June...turns out BOTH of his A/C units were 24/7 during June. He just had BOTH inside units replaced at $6k. He said IF he had replaced the outside units at the same time, it would have been around $20k

Add that little issue onto the fact that their fixed rate expired and almost doubled on them.

My brother lives in weatherford and there bill tripled because the company tripled what they charge. From like 250 a month to 700.00.I was like they can't do that and he said they make all the power at the lake and they can and are. Also hopefully nobody works for Oncor here but make sure they actually read your meter.I just got charged 5000.00 for a gas bill that was wrong because the gas valve was off since march third but the meter wasn't being read they were looking at last years consumption.I was right they (Oncor)admitted not really reading the meter and they are crediting our account. One other thing. Check all of your ducts in the attic(I assume you don't have a mobile home)and make sure no varmit or squirrel has chewed a hole in your ductwork making it run forever.I think the whirly birds were good too. They also have these thermostatically operated fans for the attics too.You might look into that.It sounds like Nasty Nate works there and will help you though.

I haven't checked thoroughly, but I looked at them to make sure one wasn't off the register when I was in the attic day before yesterday.

I did have the electric vent fans (2) but opted for the ridge vents and whirly birds so that I could get ventilation without powering a fan. The only other option is solar powered vent fans but they run $3-500 EACH.

Yea, I am on Tri-County Co-Op Electric, have a 2550 sq.ft. single story home. We keep thermostat at 82 when not at home and 77 when we are at home. Our bill was $182 last month (highest we have had) and we have been here since December....every month has been @ .11 per kwh. Can't really bitch on a co-op......you can't switch to another electric provider but why would you want to? :D

Had a contractor at the house last week and he lives in Weatherford.....said his bill on a 1600 sq. ft. home with new insulation, windows, roof was $700! Said he was going to the city council meeting last Friday to bitch with everyone else and tell the city that he was going to have to move if something didn't give. Pretty bad you have to move because you can't afford the electricity in a town, huh?

When that company goes bankrupt and can't hit their deposit requirements with ERCOT and the PUC let me know when you get dropped to POLR and your rate goes to .25.

They are losing their ass on that rate locked in for however long and if they do that for a lot of people they will go under.
