I'm up in the air trying to figure out what sub to get. I'm not big into the car audio scene and don't know a lot about it. I just like my shit to sound go to me and I'm not trying to rattle everyones windows around me.
I have only had two vehicles with systems in them. The first had 10w6's and the second had 10w3's. I could tell a big deffernce between the 6's and 3's. The 6's hit harder and just sounded better all around. Now that I have more room i'm thinking of going with a w7, just not sure if I should get a 10 or 12? I have a jl 500/1 that I am going to power it with and I'm only going to run one sub. Which would you guys recomend, 10w7 or 12w7?

ould say 12 cause it is a good rounded size. 15 to big and 10 seems alittle small. I have two w3v2 in my stang. 12. Plenty

If you have the room and budget for a 12, go for it. This is like asking if you should order a medium or large pizza. How hungry are you? ;)

The room and budget isn't a problem. I'm just not if I have enough power to get the most out of a 12 or not, thats why I was wondering if a 10w7 would be better or not.

Definitely go with the larger sub. A 500/1 will push either one of those subs beautifully, but you'll get more output with the 12.
i say get a fi q 12. better sub for the price
www.ficaraudio.com they will build it to what u want

12w7 Ftmfw! :d
12w7 Ftmfw! :d
maybe for sound quility. but if u really want to hit then u might want to try something else such as:
dd 9500 9900 series
fi audio btl's
re mt's
AQ's hd3's
etc......
IMO....I'd go with a 12w6V2 or 13w6V2, but I would choose the latter. I think the W7's are more for output. Just my opinion.

how loud does it need to be? My TL had one 12W7 in it and it shook the hood with the gains down... do you really want to crack the windows?
Most people who have 12W7s or have heard em have no power on em... 500 watts will sound GOOD, but its not going to get the X Max out of that speaker... it likes JUICE. Run 900+ RMS to it, then tell me it doesn't hit. ;)

Is the SPL difference between giving it 500w vs 900w even audible to the human ear? Also keep in mind that 500w out of a 500/1 is being conservative.

I would say, yes and no... To how hard that shit slams into my back its much noticeable, but overall sound, no, probably not, but I am sure a RTA would measure at least a few db gain. The speaker "hits" harder with more power, I am into the not boomy hit and immediately disappear type bass, and only a larger speaker with a lot of power can control the reverbaration

I have a 12w6v2 in my Civic, and now that I have it tuned in alittle better...it rocks! Sound quality is badass, and it gets as loud as you want..thats for sure. I am running it off a JBL 1200.1, which is more than recommended. But power is control :)

shit just bumps honestly man. IMO it sounds like shit... not to mention they need Soooooo much room... ive seen a 12 l7 in a 5 cu ft box...
you will be a lot happier with a Fi IMO in the overall sound and ability to just crank it up but you wont be disappointed with an overpriced JL :p

I bought the system used and I only paid 150ish for the dynamat :D I had enough for the license plate and the entire trunk, bottom and top.

It's the best price I could find and the shipping was pretty quick. It's tedious to install though, but worth it!
