Fans are asked to treat Chiefs games like bowling matches

By MJD

See all those fans in that picture? They are dirty, filthy people who are running afoul of Arrowhead Stadium law and should be ejected and beaten with a railroad spike.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a "Fan Code of Conduct," which is essentially a list of rules that fans have to follow when they're attending a game at Arrowhead. In theory, it's not a bad idea, as you'd like your stadium to provide a friendly atmosphere for families and people who aren't drunken hooligans.

In practice, though, it might not be such a great idea, especially if the person responsible for coming up with the rules is an 85-year-old woman who teaches the 2nd grade and regards standing up as one of the evil things that young whippersnappers often do. Seriously, standing erect is the No. 2 item on the list of things that are prohibited:

• Standing and/or obstructing the view of other fans

Not only that, Pro Football Talk points out how seated fans can anonymously tattle on their upright counterparts:

The Chiefs also have set up a text-messaging system that allows fans who might be offended by behaviors like standing to report the situation to the powers-that-be.

Awesome. I hear they're even taking the extra step and including bed pans with every seat, so no one has to get up to use the bathroom. They're going to make the beer and peanut vendors crawl through the stadium on all fours. Also, as soon as you get to your seat and sit down, an usher's going to come by and inject you with a temporary paralytic.

Maybe I'm overreacting. The anti-standing policy might only be temporary. Maybe they'll lift the ban when the Chiefs can field an offense that might actually score a touchdown every now and then and might give fans a reason to stand. Maybe this is only the policy until Brodie Croyle improved or is replaced.

Still, it seems like an asinine, joyless, and dangerous policy. If standing is banned, we can't be far away from banning yelling, too, can we? I'm all for a friendly fan experience, but I'd also rather not turn Arrowhead into the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

No way can they enforce that, and if they do, they can bet that their fan base will start watching the games at home.

No Standing? WTF?

Of course it is the Chiefs . . . do they really have a reason to stand?

We got in to several arguments, some of which were a cunt hair away from being fights last season, due to standing up.

Some fucking prick that thought he was a badass was promptly shut the fuck up, after his loud mouthed whore bitched about us standing up. You ready for the kicker? This was on opening kickoff, and the play wasn't even dead yet.

I don't stand the entire game. Neither do any of the people we go with. However, we do stand up on 3rd downs. We do stand up when someone breaks free. We do stand up when something exciting happens. My standard response has become "Sounds like you should have paid for better seats, cock sucker."

It's ridiculous, really. The entire lower level at TX stadium is on it's feet almost the entire game. People refuse to get it. Just because you don't want to get your fat, sorry ass out of a seat, doesn't mean I am forced to sit down the entire game. The day the Cowboys impose and enforce something like this, is the day I will give up my tickets.

And this is the way it should be.

The section we sit in, is basically per game ticket sales. We're the only season ticket holders in that section. We paid for season tickets, and we paid for the first row. Everyone behind me, can kiss my pasty white ass. Like I say, sounds to me like they should have paid for better tickets.

Wood knows, I'm not one you want to fuck with, if you're trying to get something. I'm the world's biggest asshole, and crying/bitching is only going to make it worse. Especially after I've had a few. This happened almost weekly. The guy/whore I posted about above, just didn't know when to let it go. That prompted 4 of us to stand, the entire fucking game. Didn't sit down once. I assume the only time they got to see the game, is when we went on beer runs.

I can see their point. But being a bitch and threatening people you are trying to get a favor from, is only going to make your life harder.

It's a freakin' sporting event! haha.

The Frisco Roughriders "security" at the stadium tried that crap on me last year. Brought 4 kids along with me and they were having a blast. They were dancing with Deuce and, well, being kids excited about watching a baseball game and playing the inning transition games.

There was a family three rows ahead of us who complained the kids were to "noisy" and the family wasn't enjoying the game. Granted I didn't see them once clap or stand the entire game so I guess they thought they were at church service.

I told the security dude I've had season tickets since they started playing, go to many of the games and never had a problem with kids being kids and I'd be more than happy to stop coming but my kids will enjoy the game tonight. Also told him if he didn't want 8 and 12 year olds jumping and hollering during the inning transitions to keep Deuce locked up in the back room and stop all the fan participation entertainment.

Didn't tell my kids to be quiet and they continued on their merry ways. I still go but damn that is about as stupid as you can get.

Some sports games are just better on TV, and IMO Football is one of them. I've never been to a football game that supports a family atmosphere. Try baseball if thats what you're looking for.

Same here. I don't stand the whole game but i'm going to stand up on a big down or if there is a reason to celebrate. No one said has ever said anything to me despite seeing a few choice fat asses behind me not ever standing up.

that's defiently a dumb rule. We have season tickets at OU & the only time anyone in the stadium sits is during timeouts & halftime.

I'd rather watch a game at home anyway.

The other fans are part of the appeal and the downside to going to a live sporting event. Why can't people just be a little more laid back, drink some beer and watch whatever event you paid to watch?

Now...you spill my 7-9 dollar beer, that's a different story.
