Granted, it's kinda hard to get excited about the Mavs' 51st pick, but I'm holding out that they pull some strings and move up in the draft to get a better player. There are some rumors floating around this morning that they're negotiating a Top 10 pick! All I can say is there are a LOT of holes to fill in our roster this year and it should be very excited between the draft and the free-agent negotiations that start on 7/1.

sounds like Diop should be back. However they are saying we might spend the whole MLE on him? i think we could offer him half and he would take it. We should make a run at CJ Miles from Utah. We need a big 2 guard. I prefer someone athletic so he can catch the lob from Kidd

Yeah, I saw that about Diop as well. That's a pretty good pay raise if he get's the full MLE. (over DOUBLE). Unfortunately, we may have to compete w/ other offers which may force our hand. The next week or so should be pretty interesting.

Piss on Diop I say we let him go anyway, and try and make a move for someone a little more solid under the hoop.

Such as? There arent many people available that we can afford. We dont have much trade bait outside of Bass. Perhaps the signing of Diop means Damps name has been brought up in possible trade rumors?

True I forgot about Damp, either way we could use a good big man in the center via draft or free agency.

As for the number one pick, it will be Beasley any team would be stupid not to take him.

They need help, there's no doubt about it. Hopefully they can get an athletic big man.

Yup there are some nice ones coming up, I just wish Dirk could make the move to center he could shake it up with his outside shooting ability but he lacks some size.

I bet Rose goes first. That will allow Chicago to trade Heinrich for someone. I think Beasley is too much a liability on the defense end. He will put up great numbers. But when he goes out and puts up 25/10, chances are the guy he was guarding did the same..

Rose will go to Chicago, then Beasley to Miami who will then be traded to someone else for a talented free agent. ORRRR, Miami takes OJ Mayo at the #2 pick. I've read they're not big on Beasley.

Just read a rumor about a potential trade with Memphis..... Josh, Stack, the #51 and change for #5, Mike Miller and Brian Cardinal... The Mavs have been saying over the last couple of months that they wouldn't move Josh, but they may have been saying that to get his stock back up in anticipation of moving him. Carlisle supposed to be a big fan of hot outside shooting, so Miller could probably provide that plus he has a little size.

And Artest will opt out from his contract. There have been rumors about Carlisle's link to Artest may land him in Dallas.

just out of curiousity, where are you getting your info? im bored today and would like to read it. I havent heard about the memphis deal yet, but I believe Artest said the other day he wouldnt take a pay cut to be on a contender. I could be wrong, but I thought he also said he wasnt going to opt out of his contract?

Yeah, I read the same thing earlier in the week. I go to a site called www.dallasbasketball.com (http://www.dallasbasketball.com) It was created by columnist Mike Fisher and has a LOT of insight from folks that are close to the Mavs organization. All of the threads usually reference an article or an AP source. It has been VERY informative over the years. Go to the first forum on there called Mavs and NBA talk.

Other interesting trade: Yi from Milwaukee to NJ Nets for Richard Jefferson. Ole Devon Harris might be able to light a fire under NJ with the right big men around him!

This just in:

In an unprecedented move, the Mavs use a loophole in the NBA rulebook and draft Joey Crawford as their 51st pick. Even though he will not be playing on the team, the Mavs feel that his play calling skills will become a valuable asset to the team and their quest for a title. Coach Carlisle was quoted as saying "This changes the very dynamics of our team. Instead of going through a rigerous training camp this summer, we'll skip that and only practive free throws during our regular practice schedules".

Diop commented today about the possible trade:

"Click click, click click click. Click click click click click click click click click. Click click click click click click click click click."

Mavs take Shan Foster from Vandy in the second round. He is compared to Kyle Korver in having an excellent outside shot but not much else.

That was a pretty uneventful draft for Dallas. I was really expecting them to make some moves to up their position, or at least BUY a pick or two. Oh well, I think they got a good pick at 51. Even if that's all he can do, 47% from 3's ain't shabby. NOW comes phase 2, which is free agency acquisitions!

i hope we bring wright back, i think he will be a solid player. im still hoping we make a run at CJ Miles. i really wanted us to draft JR Giddens or Bill Walker. Looks like Boston ended up with both of them
