Anyone one on here bought a new bike?

if so would you do it again?

is the warranty still 12 months unlimited miles?

Bought one new, I'll probably never do it again. I'd rather just buy a used bike thats the current year model. Let someone else take the hit

 what do you mean about the hit?
Bought my current bike new, and am buying my next bike new. 0 miles and knowing it hasn't been mistreated is much better to me, and I like having a warranty.

Personally I'd rather save the few grand, but thats your call. Oh and I cant speak for other brands, but Yamaha's factory warranty covers for one year, even after the first owner.

I'm struggling with the same thing. Depreciation is a concern, but so is the warranty and financing on the "plus" side. I've always kept log books on all my new (or newer) vehicles, and it's easier to do when the bike has no history except with me. But...saving 40% on a 2-3 year-old bike with 8K miles on it is good, too. If the owner can show some maintenance records, that's even better. The 1 year warranty is fine, but not many people ride them for the mileage part to even come into play.

I didnt spend much more from buying new to used, I got a brand new 07 gsxr 600 out the door for 8700, most dealers wanted more for one that had 5k plus miles

Don't be stupid guys buy one used, you will save several thousand dollars. Who gives a shit if it has a few thousand miles, honestly who has ever had a problem with a jap bike? I've owned four and never had one.

so learn to talk at the dealership and save some money.

you can get an extended warranty pretty cheap.

unless they buy it as a daily unless when it's raining. I did 12K my first year of owning my bike.

so you're saying it's smarter to buy a used '07 with a pipe and miles for $7200 than to buy a brand new, never titled bike for $7250 with a full factory warranty and zero miles? yeah, you can get a new '07 gsxr for that much right now.

What dealer is selling '07 GSXR's for $7250? What is the OTD price?

There are exceptions. I said "not many". 12 month/12k miles was covered on bikes 25 years ago.

take your choice. Pretty much every Suk dealer has some '07's left, and with huge rebates are letting them go cheap. Suzuki made way too many '07's, which is why the '08's are more limited.

Any idea what they're doing on the Bandit 1250S's? It's one on my short-list.

I just bought an '06 GSXR-600 from an individual with 5400 miles for $6k. I wasn't interested in financing a bike and to me, a well-maintained low mileage bike is just as nice as a new one and I saved several thousand bucks compared to new. The kid I bought it from paid $8600 less than a year ago.

I'm still waiting to hear which dealer has 07's for $7250, and more interested in what the true, cash, out the door price is.

i bought used. it may be 3 years old, but 3-4 grand off the new price was worth it.

I have found several 2007 1 liter bikes fo 9,600 out the door for less than 11k full warranty new. that is a lot better than 2008 models for 12,500 out the door for 14k or so.

I guess it is a toss up.. I would like to know that the bike was taken care of properly. You go to check out a bike and the owner is saying oh i have never ridden in the rain, done stoppies or wheelied it and yet you check the triple tree bearings are loose as hell etc. If they lie about that odds are they didnt break it in right and change the oil, let it warm up etc.

I have only bought new, mainly cause my luck sucks. I would rather not have to pay for repairs casue some asshat didnt tell the whole truth. Just bought a new one 2 weeks ago in fact. And kept my 06 just for grins. :D

Yes its a gamble, but buy under warranty and you should be alright. 3 out of 4 of my bikes were used. Never a problem with any of them.

I wouldnt spend 7200 for an 07 when you can find them for 6k used, and I dont know where the hell your going to pick up a new bike for less than 8k???? much less a dealer still selling an 07. A year ago in 07 I bought my 06 cbr600rr with 2k miles for 5200, find a better deal then that. BUY ONE USED

ha! buying new and paying thousands extra for peice of mind? pfft. You can tell if a lightly used bike has been abused or not...pretty easily.

and moreso, if the 'abuser' is somewhat skilled in their 'abuse'... there could very well be no damage done to the bike even though they made wheelies on it.

I have owned 4 bikes. Three used and 1 new. The 3 used were all good bikes but they all had things wrong with them. A ding here or a scratch there. The first one blew up right after I got it. I bought an 07 ZZR 600 for 7200 in aug 07 out the door with a new helmet. I have not regreted it once. I know that any problems will be from me, and I like the waranty. That being said, if I did not have the finances I do now I would have bought another used one.

if a "ding here" and a "scratch there" is worth upwards of 1k to you.. then by all means..

I guess that's my point. I had the extra 1k at the time so I went new. I went used on the stang to save about 5k and spent 5k 3 months later putting a new engine, clutch and belhousing on it. I had the money at the time so I went with peace of mind.

Just out of curiosity, what are the terms of a factory warranty? Miles and time?

Good point. The guy I bought my bike from was a friend. Also, I would never suggest a new rider get a new bike. It never fails they will lose it it in the gravel at an intersetion or drop it in the garage. Then they are way upside down.

I've owned over 30 bikes and only 4 i bought new. Its not hard finding clean low mileage used bikes if your patient. I don't know about anymore but back around 2003-2004 it wasn't uncommon to walk into dealers and find 2 year old sportbikes still brand new on the showroom. I bought a 954RR and a TL1000R new like this. The only new bike i bought still in its current model year was a Harley
