Is there a big difference in cornering ability when it comes to brand? (Assume sport bike)

for most riders it is confidence and skill, rather than the bike. kevin schwantz says it is 90% rider and 10% motorcycle. he might have said 80 and 20, don't remember for sure. watch "faster." also, change a set of tires and all of a sudden you are riding a whole new bike.

I totally agree with this, about the tires. I didn't feel real comfortable in the corners on my bike and I just thought it was me. I put a new set of tires on the bike and it wants to just dive into the corners now. Tires made a huge difference on mine.

They are all about the same. Riding position and tires are key. Then suspension

I asked because an r6 rider that works for me is convinced that Suzuki/Kawasaki suspensions are shit and tend to feel loose and uninspiring in the corners.

Well from my personal experience.
i like the way my gsxr handles...because im used to it
but every kawi 636 ive rode handles like a dream.
and tires make a HUGE difference on how a bike rides Pilot Powers FTW!!!

my cbr600rr was a full blown race bike, and my 636 outhandles it on STOCK TIRES.

i think your coworker is a brand loyal douchebag. :)

Yeah I'm thinking there is something wrong with your RR.

I agree it is 80% rider and 20% bike, but throw on some slicks and youll tip that bike in corner w/out trying. DOT or Slicks all the same to me going into corners, just get your ass off the seat.

Yeah I'm thinking there is something wrong with your RR.

RR had pilot races on it... of course it would lean, but on a stock tired 636 I CAN FEEL A DIFFERENCE (see: better handling characteristics) VERSUS MY 04 600RR.

I put that in caps, in hopes that it would make it into your thick skull.

Let me know if i need to draw you a picture.

I guess your RR wasn't setup right then. No way a raced RR would not handle better than a stock bike unless it wasn't setup right and I have had about 25k miles experience on a 636.

wow dude, I really dont think thats what hes saying. Hes basically saying the same thing I am. YOU might have felt a difference, but thats a dumb perception. Apparently that RR was more capable than you are. If the 636 is sooooo much better than the RR, why doesn't everyone race those stock? Why did you spend thousands on the RR when you coulda just got a 636? That might make you an idiot to spend all that money on the RR to have a stock bike handle better, supposedly. Either way, you must have had some serious setup issues with that RR if your stock Kawi could outhandle it, especially on stock tires.

Alot of people dislike them but the the Buell XB9S lightning I had was the most forgiving and easiest cornering bike I have ever had. I would take it over the GSXR or ZX-7 I had, it is not as strong on the straight away but corners like a dam go cart. Of course the Buell XB9's and 12's are designed by Eric Buell and one of if not the best balanced bikes from the factory and easily adjusted to each rider. The gas and oil are contained in the frame, it is a work of art.

Duncan on here got a new Buell 1125 or something like that and that thing is just drop dead sexy and by far the most fun bike I have ever ridden. I would take it over a liter bike any day of the week.
