Do you have to clean & oil a 1911 pistol more than a Glock (poly) type pistol? I really want a 1911 in a .45 but I don't like having to take it apart & clean it all the time. I had my Glock before for about 5 years & only cleaned it 3 times & never had a problem with it. I'm just wondering if the 1911's require more attention. Thanks for any input!

A lot of it depends on what ammo you shoot. Winchester and Remmington are pretty clean shooting ammo. Commie block stuff like Wolf is much dirtier. A 1911 is dirt simple to clean. It will take 10min the first time and less after that.

Strip the slide, clean the barrel and inside of the slide, couple drops of oil on the trigger group and firing pin, couple tiny dabs of moly grease on the slide rails and barrel nut, Assemble and your'e done.

I do this every few hundred rounds. (one trip to the range for me)

I do a full detail clean about every 5,000 rounds.

That's not bad, I heard it was a lot worse. Looks like I will be getting my self a 1911.

I don't plan on shooting it that much. I just want a good 1911 .45 to carry. What do you guys recommend? I would like to stay under $800.00 I like the way the Springfield & Kimber's look. I want something that is comfortable to carry as well. I currently have a Sig SP2022 .40 & it's a little too bulky to carry.
