1911 .45 Carry/Compact frames.

I know that most every maker will have a compact/carry frame for the 1911's but I wanted to see what brands you guys know that definitely come in a compact/carry frame.

I know Kimber and Springfield arms definitely.

Also what are your thoughts on the Rock Island 1911's.

due to the steeper feed ramp I would certainly pick either Kimber, or the spring field. both are very nice extremely accurate pistols.

Yeah it would eventually be for carry purpose. Here's the boat i'm in, due to limited funds i can't afford to spend $1,000 on a gun right now, I'm looking for something I can take and shoot at the range, something I can use for personal protection (hints the reason for looking at the 1911's) and something I can eventually carry. I've always shot the 1911's very well, it's a gun that's very comfortable for me, so I'm trying to find a good medium that I can afford.

I would sudgest looking at the colt new agent, if you go the compact route. I would personally look for a commander size gun.

I think you meant rock island. Some people may talk shit about the "cheaper counter parts" , but my rock island has been solid as a rock. Great gun that i would put my life on. Eats every brand of ammo that i have put through it , not one failure. Maybe i just got a good one ? :)

the springfield is about 550 so your not looking at a whole lot more than the Rock Island

they do in their larger and more fancy models. But yeah the ultra carries are normally very reasonable.

its such a heavy pistol I didn't think it was that bad, big fire ball and big pop but it really didn't jump around that bad.

I had a tactical pro II and the trigger was amazing, was smooth very light. The Springfield ultra compact I had had a decent trigger solid but not as light.

I have a Rock Island and a Springfield with the extra goodies on it. To be honest with you, I like my Rock Island, its fun to shoot, but then again there is a reason I bought the Springfield. Once I get my CHL, the Springfield will be my carry, and eventually I'll be adding a Springfield compact to my collection. The Rock Island I bought was the bare base GI model, but I could put a few hundred into it and make it almost or just as good as my Springfield. Nonetheless, it is reassuring that Springfield backs their guns with a lifetime warranty, and if you look back last week, you'll see my testimony of how well their customer service is.

Well I've shot the a Colt, Smith and Wesson, Springfield, and Kimber 1911 .45 so that's a tough call. They all feel similar in how they shoot and feel great in my hands.

Get one with a ramped, bull barrel when it's shorter than 5in Government model.

Kimber has a good name from their Carry models of 1911 style pistols.

Generally speaking, I think striker-fired, polymer is best for CHL.

I like simple and reliable. Most of the polymer guns are exactly that.

I have Kimber Eclipse Pro II (Commander sized and not really easy to conceal), a Kimber Ultra Carry II that is a 3in barrel and shoots and conceals well, and a Colt Officers (3.5in barrel) with some upgrades on it. All three are great to shoot and the last two are nice sized for concealment. I usually switch back and forth for carry. I would recommend any of the three without any qualms.

Yeah man, go with the Kimber... Trust me, you will feel better in the long run knowing you didn't go for the cheapest one out there. Sometimes cheap will due just fine, but if your life ever has to depend on it, you don't want to ever have to second guess.

I've got the same pistol (Kimber UC2) and it's very comfortable, barely more than most of the .40s I've shot. The slide feels a bit akward to me but it's not painful, it's just weird feeling that much weight moving backwards in such a small package.

I have the Rock Island Compact, and a full size. Both have shot every thing I have put through them, from ball ammo to hollowpoints, without a single problem. I have over 600 rounds through the full size and 400 rounds through the compact. I have carried both and would again without a second thought. The only down side is they are both steel framed. I paid 349.00 for the compact.
