im tired of chemlawn, they blow!!! im tired of paying them money to make my lawn look exactly the same.

i wanna go tonight and get some fertilizer to do myself. basically, i have no weed problems because im a freak and pick them all before they have a chance to spread. My grass is in very good condition, just not really green yet. Whats best stuff to put down to make it green? just nitrogen or should i get some kind of mix? whats best stuff?

The mixes with heavy percentages of nitrogen will green it up nicely, but don't necessarity enhance the root system. Instead I use a general-purpose fertilizer and accept having a slightly-less-than-golf-course-green but overall healthier lawn.

Do you know if your lawn actually needs nitrogen? Sure it may not be green but it could be a host of other things. Take some soil samples to Calloway's and they will analyze it for free. That way when you supplement your soil you are not needlessly putting chemicals on your lawn.

If you get something high in Nitrogen, be SURE it is time release or you'll burn up your grass. We just ran some Ironite in w/ our fertilizer. It can be used several times a year and is not a fertilizer itself, but will help balance out the Ph in your soil (if you need it).

Also, be sure to follow the directions on your fertilizer. When we first moved in last summer, we didn't water afterwards like it said and nearly killed our grass....it was yellow for 2 weeks.
