i have always been a ruger fan, my buddy has found them for $299 down in waco. i will be picking one up within the week. what do the experts on here think?

one of their new pistols was just recalled for a safety issue not sure if it was this one or the other carry model....

That was the SR9.

We have gotten 1 LCP in and sold it within 10min. I did get to look at it and finger the trigger. Looked and felt like a decent CC weapon I havent shot it, but it seems well worth the $289 we are selling them for. Too bad Ruger cant keep up with demand, less than 1/3 of our order that was supposed to have been here at the beginning of march for them has been filled so far.

I haven't shot one yet, but would love to. I would be interested in reliability vs Keltec P3at. The P3AT I own and a few of my friends own all have feeding issues that cause jams. I would buy one of these over a Keltec if I could be sure that the reliability was better. Also, do they make an extension for the mag? Needs one.

I like the feel of the Ruger better. As far as shooting acurracy. I think they are about the same. I have put about 200 rounds thru the Ruger, and 3-400 rounds thru the KelTek. Not a single problem with either.
I carry the Ruger and the wife carries the KelTek everyday.
Here's a target from 16' . These were the first rounds I put thru the Ruger:

Have you ever sent the Keltec back to the manufacturer? Lots of documented cases of other people having the exact same issue and a lot of times sending it back to have it worked over cures the problem. Just a thought.

I'd like to compare both side by side and see how they both shoot. I'd love to own a pocket .380 for "ultra" concealment although trusting the .380 round would make me a little paranoid.

reading between the lines, now that my friend is why you are the new manger.

jose if i dump 7 .380 center mass and they are still coming at this point after i throw the gun at them, i hope i can outrun them!!! or get to the 1911 in the truck :D

I've heard of horror stories of .380's not penetrating or expanding very well for a variety of reasons. Also I'd be a little concerned about bone deflection from the little .380 ACP. Some may say that it's better than nothing but I'd be concerned about it giving whoever carries it a false sense of security. Just my $.02. I'll see if I can dig up any information on carry ammo for the .380.

No. I use it every day and haven't checked into that. Do you know what seems to be the problem with them?

The .380 is the absolute lowest carry ammo I will go. It's also better if you make your own ammo.

The P3AT has jammed 1 time, left one in the pipe. The Ruger hasn't jammed.

god bless.I would, but I don't have a .380, and I sure as Hell wouldn't let you stake your life (as insignificant as it may be :p) on some ammo that I haven't run through a gun many, many times to check reliability. :o

When my Economic Stimulus gets put in my bank I'm buying a gun for concealed carry. My PX4 seems a little too big, but I think this might be my answer. I was waiting for the SC version of the PX4, but I don't think I will see it in my lifetime.

I just love the size of this gun, I'm a little skeptical about performance though.

After looking at those test results, something looks out of whack. Why would a bullet travel deeper and expand less into clothed gelatin over bare gelatin?
They may have the numbers reversed...

I would not discount the .380 round for PD. I have had personal experience with the 9x18 round and it is quite effective up close and personal. I doubt there is that much difference between it and the 9x17 (.380) round. The basic .380 round pushes a 9mm 90gr bullet at 20,000psi. While this does not compare to the standard 9mm which pushes a 150gr bullet at 35,000psi, it ain't shabby.

Disclaimer .. Specs quoted are SAAMI numbers used only for comparison and do not reflect the vagaries of actual ammo. Yes, I know there are hotter (and colder) loads available.

I've read other test that said the same thing. Clothing clogged the cavity causing it to not expand but penetrate deeper.

Clothing tend to encase the bullet causing it to expand less and penetrate deeper. Thin clothing has minimal effect on velocity.

380 and 9mm Luger use the same diameter(caliber) bullets.

You can reload a 115gr in a 380. But from what I have read, 100gr is about the max anyone recommends. A small gun and lots of recoil is harder to control.

However, 90/95 gr is common in 380 at ~1000fps. 9mm is 115,124 and 147gr. You can get the 9mm in +P and +P+ in 115gr and 124gr.

9mm is high pressure like the 40S&W.

380 Auto is lower pressure like the 45ACP.

I am looking into reloading some 380 for a Bersa. Remington 102 Golden Sabers and 95gr Hornady XTP/JHP and some FMJ.

3.7-4.5gr of Power Pistol should push it ~1000fps at 20k psi.

I have a ton of phone books for testing.

Hey Elvis I am looking to get an LCP, does your buddy still have them for $299? Do you know if he would ship, I have a CHL if that would help.

Edit: If I get one I will have to get a holster too, so I might make a trip out to CTD, I'm sure they would have one of them.
