Cheapest quality AR-15 you can build?

What would you consider to be the cheapest (price wise) AR-15 you can build to be? Is there any shortage of ammo for them as well? It seems like someone is always looking for where to buy it.

EDIT: Honestly, you could sacrifice some on the price side and spend your money on good mags and optics.

Not a new UT-15 from Wilson Combat. A "stake your life on it" rifle would be the one you train with. If you haven't trained consistently with it, it doesn't matter what it costs, it's not yet trustworthy.

So what makes it better than a Colt, FN, RRA, etc?

I don't guess much, they just seem nicer. They seem like genuine attention is paid to their fit and finish during assembly. I work in a factory, and I can tell you that there is a big difference between a place that lets its processes drive quality from a place that lets its people drive quality. Colt/RRA/FN all have big contracts and quotas to fill, so it's far less likely that they will pay attention to each individual rifle as a rifle, rather than a sub assembly received and processed at each station. Does that make sense?

I know it can be done but after the shipping and FFL on building them, It seems to me you'd be just as well off buying the bushmaster from academy.

I have gotten ripped too many times on used parts

so you are telling me there have never been any faulty parts in a firearm ?

I am just saying I would rather buy a new one than peice one together ..
to me a New colt .. bushmaster.. ect. with a warranty (incase something breaks or is faulty whatever) would be worth the same price as "building one"

If a piece of your AR-15 breaks, it's usually cheaper to buy that one part and replace it than send an entire rifle back to the factory for a warranty repair. Shipping firearms isn't like mailing a bill payment in.

Shit, Rays Sporting goods was selling M4 Armalites for $785 about a year ago brand new. That was standard front sight and removable handle with optic rail...2 mags and a hardshell case...

Don't know if that deal is still on but compared to the hassle of building one...seems like a good plan if I were looking for one.

If you want a warranty, Stag Arms offers a LIFETIME warranty on their rifles...and you can get it southpaw if you need to...
