NTFS: Is there an alternative? (for windows)

Probly not but i just thought i would ask. I have come to realize that NTFS sucks ballz. Any hope of a better one for windows OS's? And if so, how do you implement it?

You can run ext2 on Windows (http://www.fs-driver.org/). But not for boot drives yet.

With NTFS? I don't have an issue with 4+ gig files on NTFS. Granted, I do on FAT32, but not NTFS...

i dont know maybe sux balls was to strong a term. but it still seems like i need to defrag like once every 2 or 3 weeks. just kinda seems like high maintenance to me.

Not only that it really is just old and outdated if you look at when it came out, and whats available now just seems a lot better. If only some of the better ones were for windows.

NTFS is like 10 years old, its not even a journaling file system. ext2 is even worse than NTFS imo. Windows file systems have been one of its primary problems for many years, they should've upgraded it in XP, let alone Vista.

Any complaint you have with anything computer related is probably user error more than anything else. Nobody else has to defrage their NTFS systems every two weeks. Maybe you're missing something.

the free time thing is what i was wondering about you. And yes i know my problems are user related, thats why i ask the questions. I realize im a noob in comparison to most of these guys and if im doing something wrong most of the time they will tell me in a non-douchebag manner. And since you seem to have such a long memory, (and be interested enough in my troubles to bring up old ones) ill let you know that they formally apologized, said that the rep i dealt with was "new" and sent me the right GPU. That does not mean that it was their fault, it means that they were being nice to a customer for the sake of retaining that customer.

call me retarded if you'd like, but is the system tool defrag not "good enough" or is there a better one that could be used?

i mean, i defrag about every 2 weeks. i don't need to, i just do it. so it doesn't take as long in between. i used to have a bad ass temp file cleaner but i can no longer find a download mirror for it. :(

Yeah i have heard that the stock windows defragger sucks. I have no idea why. But i also hear that there are a lot better ones out there, even free. This one was linked to me by another member...

for the most part windows default defrag sucks because it requires ample space, the other ones on the market can work with minimal amounts of space and still be successful. If you have 30 - 50G open on your disk shouldnt be an issue. If you're swapping tons of files deleting and creating new files allt he time, then you're going to have fragmentation issues. I've seen boxes get to the point where the only way to clear the fragmentation was to move all the data off the drive to another disk, so people that say UR COMPUTER SUX I ONLY HAVE DEFRAG ONCE A MONTH LOLOLOL are completely clueless and only know about their desktop PC. Defrag is a vital function of ANY windows box because NTFS is a piece of shit.
