I'd like to know if anyone has seen a real life difference when these were installed. Also if anyone is seeing a difference between them and blackout curtains.

they work really well. alot of people swear by them. there are different levels of protection as well. 90% is the most effective that i know of. it helps alot but the best improvement is on the western facing windows with the setting sun. will allow your room to stay alot cooler.

if he does a good job i'll refer him around my subdivision. its prime for the picking w/ all the new homes out there. i'd do a huge flyer mailing out there in every home if i were him and wanted business to pick up.

Most people around here tend to prefer LoneStar Solar Screens.
http://www.dfwstangs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=357435
We've got another thread on the subject. Nearly everyone in that thread has had the work done by LoneStar. I got my quote late last week and I'm just waiting for HOA approval before installing them. $522 for 11 windows. One of which is a 4 inch diameter circle window. Three of the windows (including the circle) will have the custom grid work.

Blackout curtains do help but they still allow heat to build up on the interior of your house between the window pane and the curtain. Screens keep infrared energy from entering your house to begin with, so, "I'm speculating" they are probably more effective.
Also, Screens allow you to actually look outside the window without pulling a curtain back. They also let you open the window to let a breeze in if you like. They can also be easily removed during the winter. You also get a certain degree of privacy during daylight hours because it isn't easy to look inside the windows. Of course at night, when you have your lights on, you're pretty much visible to the world unless you have interior window coverings of some sort..

when i got home from work David had already finished up the job! Looked really good. I'll try and snap some pics today and post them up. My front office has 3 windows that face west and around 6pm it gets REALLY hot in there (no blinds). there was a huge difference in temp and the best part no one could see in :)

I seriously thought about doing that since Lowes has everything. However I've got a 4' diameter circle window in the front of the house. I didn't want to deal with that..
So I finally got HOA approval and Lonestar Solar Screens is coming out in the next couple of days.

Solar Screens are great in our old house we had cheap ass builders windows and they let heat in and everything else. We had 90% beige screens put in and they kept the light out and you could not see in or out.
At night it was difficult to see out although people could see in if the lights were on.
We saw a reduction of our electric bill at around 80 bux the first month but we saw an increase in our heating bill of around 100 in the winter since it let no heat in.
As for taking them off easily well it depends on how they are installed. Ours were screwed into the frame of the window which did not make it easy especially on second story windows. It also precluded from cleaning the windows easily as the screens were in the way so you ended up just pressure washing both to hopefully get some grime off.
Would I do them again. Only if I had shitty windows. Now I have Lo e2 argon windows and good blinds and that seems to be effective for now. Will see in the hot summer months when we have to turn the AC on.

removal in the winter is another service that we offer. some want them off because of the ability to let heat in during the winter but it also keeps the cold wind off of the windows as well. and others want them off for aesthetic reasons alone. most of the windows we install are installed using springs, we try not to use screws if at all possible.

Damn, might have to look into this. The electric bill here is damn outrageous this summer.
Had David come out today, hell of a nice guy and gave me a very reasonable price. I'll post pics when they are installed.
Well 2 things
Screens are installed and look good.
after just 1 hour there is a noticeable difference!
2nd thing...damn digital camera broke on my trip to austin mon/tues...so no pics right now...sunuva...
But anyone that does not have solar screens is really missing out and should get in contact with David Hubener, really took good care of me and I would 100% recommend him.
