Just had my 3rd night without power in 2 weeks, not real fun. I've been looking at some of the 7-8k watt generators on the market but I'm not sure what to expect in the way of wiring up a transfer switch. The natural gas/propane part doesn't scare me at all though.

All I really need to power is a refrigerator, freezer, a few ceiling fans and hopefully my central air system. I'm guessing 8k watts peak would be sufficient. I don't want to spend $5000+ for a 10k watt unit.

I plan on getting one sometime this year hopefully. I'm also looking into converting my propane heaters to electric...tired of $500-$700 gas bills during the winter.

My brother has 2 Honda generators. Much needed in Houston during hurricane season.

Hasn't had issue with either one.

Thankfully Oncor finally figured out that when our power is out we aren't being billed so they cut some of the overgrown trees back in the neighborhood. Next time the power is out though I'm getting some kind of generator.

I've been seriously thinking about getting some kind of generator to power my deep freeze and fridge and a couple of lights should the power go out for a long time.

To be honest I dont think you need a huge generator to do that. My guys were buying generators left and right at pep boys when they went out of business in Lancaster. Were like 279.00 and I know they set them up to run their house out of the fuse panel. I cant remeber the size but they were not huge.
