I just got home alittle bit ago and man was it was warm in the house. I figured I would turn the AC on for tonight. Well within 30-45 mins, it drop to from 83 to 74 degrees. That might not be a big drop but it feels a world of difference and now the ac is off :D

In the last few days I've just turned on the AC for about an hour in the evening.
When I get the solar screens installed that should improve. I've got sunlight coming in several windows from 3pm to 6pm.
The wife and I also agreed that I should go ahead and blow new insulation in the attic this month. I was surprised at how cheap it is to do something like that.

To have someone do it or somehow laying it/spreading it yourself?

Both
78 in the house 83 outside, a few storm doors with screens and windows open.
2 - 2 speed vent fans in the attic set to 92 degrees and good insulation as well as a sand color roof.

I have a smaller house (1900 sq ft) and i'll be blowing more insulation in this sunday. I feel for my neighbors with the 2 story houses and the 900 dollar electric bills

Pool? some of them do.
My last electric bill was $96.
I have two teenage daughters and 1900 sq ft/3 bedrooms is tight :(
The circa 1989 A/C unit I have is hopefully going to go at the end of this year.

Our electric bill for last month was $98 for 4590 sq ft. I guess all that extra insulation and solar window screens paid off.

I'm going to buy the insulation and rent a blower from Home Depot. Then do it myself.
Yes I know not to cover the soffits :p

If you have recessed lights ("cans"), don't cover those either. They'll heat up and cut off. The insulation won't let them cool properly.

Mike has been known to drink a lit bit and may have problem remembering that as he swings the 3lb sledge.
Back on topic. We are about to have our roof replaced, getting some kinda attic ventilation installed and thinking about getting the attic reinsulate. going with a lighter colored shingle should help some, right?

I'm not sure why, but our bills are so much cheaper than our neighbors. Last month, it was around $45. I don't think we had a bill above $50 since October. Last year the highest bill was around $145 and I believe that was August.
We use CFL's and use a digital thermostat to control the temps so we don't forget to turn it up when we are gone. Plus the house was built that during the summer there is little to no direct sunlight inside the house. There are eaves above nearly all of the south side of the house. They are big enough to get the sun in the summer, but let the direct sun in when it's lower in the sky during the winter. No pool, but our house is around 2200 sqft.
