a 1 ton heat pump is not going to due worth a crap in june july and august at 95-100 degrees it will take atleast 1 ton per 450 sqft and that is if the ceiling is 8' high and insulated well and the doors are sealed very well. I would shoot for around 400 sqft a ton on this situation due to the air leakage from the garage doors

Evaporative cooler from Lowes or Home Depot would be MUCH CHEAPER.

keep in mind that the tax man can include your garage as part of your living space if it has ducted heat/ac in it.
