To make windows vista look like xp? i just ordered an xps laptop and it has vista, i may end up doing what that other guy from here did and revert to xp, or learn to live with vista.

To an extent....
You can use classic menus, and turn off the widgets.
But I hope you have 2gigs plus of ram. Vista is a hog.

it has three. planning on upgrading eventually to four or more, but that was my second question... is there a website which shows how people have streamlined vista, turned off unnecessary widgets and shit like that?

Yes its possible. If its not possible within the Vista settings itself there are websites out there that can make it look like XP. I forgot the name of the website, i will see if i can find the link.

i don't really mind getting used to a new gui, its just the resources thing i'm worried about. i think though with a few tweaks and prods though it can run almost as efficiently as xp, which makes me feel more comfortable with purchasing a laptop with it on there.

And so was XP when it came out, compared to 2k, 98se, me, and Nt. Wow, look how the times have changed.

To an extent but not quite like this....
been there done that, all the way to Dos, and commodore 64 crap before that.
windows 4.11 was the bomb right?
;)
Vista is the biggest hog but its progression...fancier stuff. People want it flashy and pretty nowadays. It's catered to the casual user.
Windows ME was horrible....lol....horrible.... I'm not sure how that ever made it to the real world.

I'm still a fan of 98se, but i stuck to xp after a while because after sp2 so many things got so much more convenient. now i guess ill get used to vista. hopefully after a year its gotten better than people first made it out to be, plus i found this website called pcstats or something that has what seem like 99 pretty good tips on how to poptimize vista to do what you want and streamline it to take up less resources and maximize your pc speed.

You have 3GB and youre worried about resources? I can play COD4 on max everything, run winamp, TS and IE7 all together. This is with aero turned on and everything. Whats the problem you're having?

i'm not having a problem. in fact i found a better deal on a faster computer with more ram and a faster processor. i guess im just so comfortable with xp that im afraid ill be clumsy and not be able to do anything with vista. i guess i felt the same way about the switching from 98se to xp finally...
