My PC will not boot anymore, after replacing a power supply. I'm assuming that a power spike corrupted some files, and nothing I do (Replacing ntldr, ntdetect, rebulding boot.ini) will fix the problem.

My next step is to rebuild the MBR, but I have NO idea how to do this/what to type in at the DOS prompt.

Anybody...?

what os?
if xp, just boot to the recovery console on the installation, and run fixmbr.

I'm running chkdsk now, as I didn't want to perform fixmbr without backing my shit up first. It's found some errors, so I'll run it again with the /f switch.

If this doesn't help out, I'll give you a shout before I run fixmbr and possibly destroy the partition.

What makes you think shits corrupted?

Just run the repair option, it'll reinstall all the valuable windows files without resetting everything, this usually works in most cases.

When you try and boot up, does it say no valid boot record found or something similar?

NTLDR error message.

I've gotta get going and help my dad out with something, but I'll PM you tomorrow for your number.

I can't run chkdsk /f, because the system keeps booting up. I've got some ISO file burned onto a CD that will allow the system to start, but if I take that option, it never loads CHKDSK like it said it would do when the system rebooted.

Thank you, by the way.
