I was looking at some memory and trying to decide if i really wanted to upgrade, when i came across some DDR2 SLi memory which is new to me. I checked it out and it seems that my motherboard does support SLi memory. Anyone here ever used it? It says that it is faster (1200Mhz) than the other memory i am currently using, (1066Mhz) but i really am not one to just trust new things right off the bat. Now of course i realize that 1200 is ever so slightly faster than 1066, but several sellers of the the SLi memory say that it is significantly faster. (of course). But can someone tell me how it is actually better than regular non-SLi memory?

i think its something like "in case you ever wanted to do SLi, this memory will work" type thing ... meaning i guess its just a pair of matched memory sticks, like the same settings and timings or whatever

Thats kinda weird. i thought they were all supposed to match anyway.

It has very little to do with video card SLi; the technology is called Enhanced Performance Profiles and it has to do with allowing the memory to automatically make adjustments to itself to fit your system, or at least that's what I gathered from the Rep that I talked to a few months back. It basically allows your computer to run more quickly with limited user tweaks: i.e. noobs like myself just plug and play and don't have to touch shit to get a little bit better performance. Or at least that's what I gather from it.

SLI is more marketing than anything, its for people that have more money to spend on a setup than cheaper people.

For the most part, its plug and play overclocked memory, at least to not to put to fine a point on it. Save your money, do you really need a performance water pump on your car that has 190HP.

Well i see what you are saying, but in this particular case i am building a gaming rig and the SLi memory seemed to be just generally faster than regular memory. The hard part is trying to find a board that supports 1200 Mhz ram right out of the box. For less than 200 bucks i mean. I am looking at the EVGA 750i, that seems like it is going to be my best choice. I just cant tell if one of those giant graphics cards is going to cover up two of the sata ports on the mobo. In my opinion, 4 really isnt enough anyway. Here is a link to the board :

I know that board is not 1200 Mhz memory standard but i think it is probly the closest i can get in the 750i flavor. I know i can always overclock but it would be great if i didnt have to for a little while.
