I don't like water softeners.. When you shower it feels like you can't get the soap off. :o

I FUCKING hate that. College Station, and to a lesser degree Austin, suck for that reason.

Yea, I know about the "not feeling rinsed off feeling" but our shower doors, fixtures, dishwasher is all taking a licking with as hard as water as we have........we rate at 24.1 which is very high. We want to tone it down a bit.....not to mention all the crust wears out your washer machine, hot water heater......everything that uses water......even your pipes. With a water softener your appliances last lots longer, you use less soap and cleaners. A water softener is a good idea if you really need one and where I am at......I need one.

Is it stubbed out for one or do you have a point in the input line you can jump into?
If so then they are easy. If not then you will not have fun trying to figure out where they brought the main line into.

that feeling that you guys have is actually a real clean. You do not have the deposits on your bodies from the lime and other crap in your water. It also saves so much in soap costs. You really have to use way less.... I loved ours and after the past week at my dad's am convinced that we need another one.
Plus the clean up on the tile and glass is so much better and you will save your water heaters from the deposits that get in there.
Just my .02 though....to each his own.
They are not hard to install and I guess because I am in the country, we did not have to have a plumber. The people who sold us ours put it in. Not sure if Sears will do that or not....

Got a quote for $400 to install. He is going to tap into the main line coming into the house and then run to the softener and then back to the line feeding the house. He also has to install a line to spit off the bad treated water when it regenerates and he will run that into a vent tube in the attic.
I think we will be very happy to get it installed and start using better water for the house and appliances. Thing is we just moved here in December.....it is a brand new house and I am glad we are putting this in now vs later so our appliances last longer. When you look in to one and what the benfits are it is a no brainer.

Might as well get a whole house water filtration while your at it.

Takes some getting used to but it is so much better on all of your appliances and lots less use of soaps and cleaners. Cleaning the bathrooms and sinks are much easier for my maid (wife). :D

thankfully my wife feels the same as I do...
I'll buy appliances more often in order to feel clean!

To each his or her own. :D
I grew up with minerals in the water I used and drank all my life so it will get some getting used to......
