My computer started this last week. I would turn it on and it would start to open windows. Sometimes it would get all the way to the desk top but most of the time it would only get to the boot screen and the mointer goes to sleep, I hear an audible click from the tower like a relay has just opened/closed, and theres a yellow light on the front that stays solid yellow. I can feel that there is either a fan running or the hard drive is spining when I place my hand on the tower. I was told by a friend that it sounded like it was the hard drive. He never actually saw the computer and I went on a whim and bought another hard drive. Partly becasue I wanted a newer bigger hard drive anyway. Well I installed it last night and was going to use Ubuntu as the OS. Same thing happens. It gets to the boot screen with the yellow/orange bar on the bottom and then I hear that click and the yellow light stays on. Im not saying that I think Unbuntu is anyway responsible for this since it started doing this before I tried to install Ubuntu

Im betting your power supply is taking a dump on you.
If it were a driver/software issue it would probably crash at the same spot everytime. Do you have one you could swap in to test with?

Not really. Im thinking about pulling the one out of my friends computer to see if it makes a difference.

keep the case open and try to pin point the popping sound. Very seldom you get audible clues with a reboot problem, take advantage of it.
