Starting last Monday I began working out again (thus far I worked out M, W, F, Sun and Today) with cardio on Tues, Thurs, Sat and tonight.

I've taken smaller portions of food at all meals, cut out soft drinks and am sticking to water.

When I weighed Saturday I was down about 6lbs, tonight I was only down 4.5lbs total.

Does the body have a temporary panic and attempt to conserve? I'm not complaining about the weight loss, just curious why it came back a touch.

It could be a multitude of things, including what time of day you weighed yourself, how much water/food you've consumed that day, etc. It'll also take your body a short time to find a balance point considering how many changes you've made to your diet/regimen.

Your body weight shifts all the time. I always weight at the same time every day. But even then I still see swings all the time. Most people say only weight once a week, but weighing every day keeps me motivated. I don't really consider any weight loss until im at or below that weight for at least a week.

its pretty normal... Lots of factors to the bit of "gain" in weight... Could be the amount of water you drank, food you ate, more salt = more water retention...lots of things. Are you working out at a gym? If you are, see if they have an electrical impedance meter and check your body fat percentage...thats where you are wanting to see your results.

I have weighed the same amount since 3 months ago but have dropped 4% body fat...which equals about 6lbs of fat. Also, try and weigh yourself at the same time each time... In the morning after a piss is a good time :D

electrical impedance is also affected by hydration.

Scales are pretty much pointless in my book.
It can be a means of progression for some though.

I'm working out regardless. The scale just keeps an eye on progress.

Depends on what you're doing. If you're already fit, and trying to refine what you've got, the scale doesn't tell you much. If you're a fatass, it's a great motivator.

My point is...so is the mirror.
You should be able to SEE a difference.
This is one of the main reasons most people workout(to look better, as well as feel better).

It's primarily water weight Sean, and like it has been menitoned, your weight will vary throughout the day, especially when adding/changing your diet and cardio regimen. Once you get into a routine your weight will stabilize a bit, and though it will still vary, it won't be quite as dramatic.

Well yeah, but the differences are subtle, and subject to change based on conditions (lighting and such). The scale gives an actual number, that you can relate directly to past numbers. I'm not sayin' it's better, or the only way to see results, but it ain't useless either.

PM me your work out schedule!

I'm sitting at 225 right now. I was in great shape at 205, but I was also heavily involved in sports and constantly active. I know I've replaced muscle mass with fat, so at this point my end goal is to get down to ~180 without completely scraping everything, but maintaining a constant work out schedule and eating better (smaller).
