I am working on putting together a new race to run on some Saturday nights with our features and wanted to gauge the interest. I want to run a Factory Rubber Shootout. There is only one rule, you must be on regular,. factory type tires, no slicks, cheaters, DOT type tire etc. Other than, run what ya brung.
I was thinking $25 entry fee (just five more than a regular feature admission) and then run. Would pay winner, r/up, and semis...probaly in the neighborhood of $250, $100, and $25.
Let me know if you would be up for trying this out.
Nick
I'd be out on that, but some slower street cars that run mid to upper 7's on stock gatorbacks would like it I'm sure.

Nick will this be ran as a bracket tree or a heads up tree?

This would be heads-up, most likely on a pro tree. I am not married to the pro tree, so it would depend on what the feedback was, but it will definitely be heads-up.

Sounds good to me! But when you say factory style does this mean running a factory size as well? I dont think I can run a 245....safely anyway

You can be running a bigger tire than was originally installed, just as long as it is a "normal" street-type tread.

I have an idea: Once a month have a motorcycle bracket race with a street class and a dragbike class...
No tracks around here do such a thing, you'll probably get alot of street bike racers that have nowhere to run.

What do you think your car would run on normal tires? Mid to upper 7's sounds about right

could be fun to watch with pro tree + "factory style" street tire. Also will there be a different class for the awd cars?

So it cant be drag radials? Just regular ole street tires?

you might want to consider a treadwear rule. Because there are some regular street tires with sub 100 treadwear that are comperable to drag radials. Often in autocross they call treadwear of 200 or greater a typical street tire.

mid 7's on a true street tire sounds like something i would pay to see. Seems like it could be hard to do.

I would really have to crawl out the whole on some street tires...lol spinning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.. :D I bet the wifes honda would roll out pretty good ;)
factory DOT class sounds cool...

street tires leave alot of mables to clean up and blow of the track.

I am going to try to keep the rules very simple. I understand what you are saying about AWD cars, so I would need to think about that.
As far as treadwear, we will obviously be looking at everyone's tires to make sure they are legal, but low treadwear tires that would act more like a drag radial are unsafe anyway. We would no allow anyone to run with tread that low that would give them an advantage.

I'm not going to swap my fronts and rear tires to come out to race though. :o
John Mitchell did drag Dan's ass on some street tires though, think he went a 7.7 on some 18's in a bolt on 01 z0h.

That's why I want to run this on feature nights. One good burnout from a Pro Mod, Fuel Altered, KOTH car, etc. will but all of the rubber back on the track. As far as the marbles, we have a couple of good blowers...and a couple of guys in the water......Oh nevermind. :D

sounds good to me, this class would bring a big crowd, id love to take the fairlane out to this thing when we get the 9inch in it. pro tree would make this even more tricky as the manual cars wouldnt launch as hard to try and be safe from spinning. Would be interesting thats for sure

I don't ride anymore, but freinds want a place to bracket race once in awhile.
So I thought I would throw this one at you, My uncle who ran St Louis Int. said
it went over really well up there, so they did it once a month.

Motorcycles have always been a tricky group of racers to organize and get to the track in my experience. I would love to get something together for them on a reular basis, but it always seems like you get a ton of people talking and asking about it, and then you have a race and like 10 bikes show up.
Even when I was at Kennedale, I couldn't get something organized. I am definetly be up for trying something out, but in the early stages it would have to be a deal where the purse was decided based on the number of entries.

Nick i have really only seen two bike bracket series work since i have been around racing, the saturday night bracket races out at the motorplex had a bike class which was packed each week, and the abilene bike races two years ago which was packed, they did alot of promotions for these and in time it paid off quite nicely with huge turnouts, its a great idea especially since the NHRA bikes only get to race at the divisionals 6 times a year but like you said they are a really tricky group to get out but when they do, they all come after their buddies come

You're going to have to put a limit on size though. You might end up with some tubbed out back half stuff or tubbed trucks running huge 15" wide BFG's on the rear or something.

Bolt on's and a cam Zoh. Yes he won. I need some 4.56 gears just to get this car out of the hole with that T56. That would equal me having the 3.73 with my old TKO. The 3.73's and the T56's 1st gear ration is the same as me having my TKO with a set of 3.08's in the rear. LOL I would be interested in running in it.. I have pulled some 1.8 60fts on the stock tires. Woot Woot. :D
Damn that sounds like fun. I would but I always have to close Sat.

Yeah I posted up on DFWSS about this but Ill bring it up here too. Id be interested in running the Datsun in this but I can already hear the bitching because of the tubs out back. I mean if I come out with a set of 29x15 street tires like these that would be legal wouldnt it?

There is the problem with this run what you brung stuff, its a run what you brung on street tires dont put limits on the sizes, it will end up like every other h2h class then you will start making limitations on boosted cars then the weights of the cars. If you can fit a huge street tire under your car more power to you, this is a $25 to enter race, which means for $5 more you get to test and possibly win some money but your at least going down the track and having a good time.

i think it sounds like a fun class and could make for some fun racing.... i also think it would need to stay pro tree to make it slightly harder. IF i had street tires i'd possibly bring out the coupe for some of that fun! It would make it a drivers race for sure!
