I have been thinking about getting a .338 Lapua Mag from Armalite does anyone on here have any dealings with them good/bad ? I do have the room to kinda stretch its legs on my farm so that is not an issue with the gun.
Thanks for any advice.

Hopefully certain military groups will start using the .338 more and the costs will come down. These rifles are certainly lighter than the Barrett .50.

Yeah thats what I was thinking it still carries a good deal of long range punch but is about half the price of a 50 and still cheaper to shoot. I had thought about maybe a 416 but bleh I have not found any place other then Barrett that sells them and the gun is higher then a 50 according to Barrett's site. I just have not had any dealings with the 338 and its not something you see everyday around here.
The rounds are kinda pricey I guess but since I have been a long time duck and turkey hunter I get used to being bent over when I buy ammo :(.
Thanks.

.338 Remington Ultra Mag is similar performance and much easier to obtain rifle/ammo.
.338 Lapua, RUM, .30-378 and .338-378 are all shoulder busters too.

Still trying to find a new gun that is not a custom build. It seams the AR30 has been out of stock and back ordered for a couple of years now, I did manage to find Remington makes one in the 700 series but it is labeled as a M24A3 and is found only in their military section so I guess I am SOL on that one too.

I have a 338 Winchester mag and it's accuracy is second only to my 22-250 despite the recoil. Actually the recoil is not that bad because it is more of a strong push than a sharp blow. I prefer to shoot it over my 300 Winchester mag that just flat hurts to shoot off a bench...

That sounds awesome, I appreciate the effort as well.

I agree that the 338 ultramag is a better package because of ammo being avalible

I keep on reading that they are trying to phase out the 338UM rather there is any truth to that or not I have no idea.
