The age old question - what scope to get for an AR?

So I've been throwing around the idea of putting a scope on my AR for some time now. Not only will it help my old eyes see better downrange (even though it's been mostly a safe queen) but I like the pimp factor of having a nice tactical scope. So sometime this summer after I pay one of my credit cards off I want to splurge on a nice scope and get back into credit debt ;)

So I'm looking for a tacticool scope with an illuminated reticle of some kind. Preferable powered by an easy to find (cheap) battery like a AA or AAA. Magnification would be nice and I've been looking at the Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T because of it's variable magnification but I really dig the Chevron reticle of the ACOG scope (if I'm remembering that correctly).

So my question to you guys with scopes on your AR's is, what are you using and what do you like/dislike about it? Pictures would be nice :)

Well there certainly cheap enough but if you decide to go with a magnifier your back up to the price of the Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T. I'm pretty sure your right that the ACOG doesn't use a battery and they have a fiber optic as a light source.

TA31RCO-M4CP Love it. No batteries no bullshit, plus drop compensated for M4. Have also used a couple of different EOTECHs and a assortment of red dots. Anything is better than peeps with my old eyes.

I've had a Leaper Scope with Luminated Reticles, I've even put the small AR-15 Scopes that are cheap. And yes, I have even went out and bought a Eotech for my AR and I love it. Leopolds are even more expensive than the Eotech...

Its all about your budget.

Lots of possibilities here.

Tactical scope with Mil-dot reticle. ($100-$2k)

Long-range Tactical/Varmint scope with target turrets. Tasco, Bushnell (100$) Wal-Mart special to high dollar Schmidt & Bender or Leupold Mk IV ($2-3k).

ACOG - I think they are 700$.

EOTech, Burris, or Bushnell holographic. 200-500$

I think it is called dual-witness, but you have the B.U.I.S. and a holographic scope. So if holographic batteries die, you have the B.U.I.S.

www.swfa.com - good site with good prices. They have a bargain bin of used, returned and blemished optics.

Quick release rings are pretty slick. Several manufs. Can also get rings with Picatinny rail so you can put laser/flashlight on there as well. Pretty handy when varmint hunting or invading rogue countries. rofl.

Optics Planet is pretty good as well.

Look at a shepherd. www.shepherdscopes.com. I have one on my .300winmag winchester laredo. I put this gun together for hunting 2 legged thin skinned game with ceramic trauma plates. Easy windage adjustment and bullet drop compensation.

X2 I have an Eotech and the same ACOG. The ACOG is well worth the money you put into it.

i have friends that have both, the red dot is cool but i would personally get the acog

I have had all the best optics get the Leupold CQT you will not be dissapointed. It is the best all around scope there is in my opinion. Pm me if you want to know where to get it the cheapest I have a place. Also Leupolds Lifetime warranty cant be messed with they are awesome.
