View Full Version : help - water pressure sucks!!!
It's been slowly getting crappier and crappier. Do you think my water line coming to my house is clogged up? Or maybe my hot water heater? Suggestions please! I want a steady stream of pressure again.
Thanks! :)

is it just a shower or all faucets in the house?

Check the outside faucets. You may have a leak going into the house from the main feed. Cut everything off in the house, and see if the meter is running. That's a start.

Your feed line coming in from the street might be leaking. This happened to us and it was on the city side of the meter under the street. Have the city come out and check. You can tell if it is on your side of the meter by turning off all faucets and see if the meter is still running.
Post up what has the low pressure.
Ok, here's what I have so far. The kitchen both hot and cold are crappy pressure. The sink in both bathrooms is good. The hot water on one shower sucks but the cold is okay. The outdoor faucets work great.
And the water meter says 2 3/8 ths close to 2 1/2 whatever that means. And with the water off in the house the meter doesnt keep on running.
Ideas?

How old is the house? You might have trash in the pipes (rust, etc.). Could also be build-up inside the pipes.

It was built in 1973. I think the faucet in the kitchen is clogged because the little hand held rinser has good pressure. :( And about the shower, I'm still trying to figure out how come only the hot has low pressure. :(

If hot water only it could be a tube they used in older water heaters that is disintegrating and clogging things up. Usually taking the valves or faucets apart and flushing will cure the problam. On the sink check the screen at the outlet.

Check for this. Unscrew the small peice at the end of the kitchen faucet. Check to see if the screen is clogged. Could be hard water deposits or trash from the water heater. When was the last time you drained your water heater?

Another thing to look at is the feed line going to the affected faucets. Mine was getting very little water and the copper feed line had actually clogged up. I had to run a coat hanger down it to knock out the blockage.
As far as no water out of the water heater - The outlet from your water heater may be clogging up if it is old. I just had mine replaced at the 10.5 year mark and the output side where the output line screws onto the tank was almost totally clogged with this hard black material. The water heaters on the guy's trailer that he had replaced before he got to my house all also had the same blockage.

i don't think its the hot water heater if two of his bathrooms sinks are perfect, and just selected ones are messing up. Im guessing its not the screens on the end of the faucets either if the cold water is flowing good just not the hot. It sounds like it might be either a few clogged pipes if the house was built in 70's, could also be bad faucets, they don't last a lifetime nowdays. Just my .02
