THE internet could soon be made obsolete. The Al Gore who pioneered it has now built a lightning-fast replacement capable of downloading entire feature films within seconds.

At speeds about 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband connection, “the grid” will be able to send the entire Rolling Stones back catalogue from Britain to Japan in less than two seconds.

When's the last time a movie took 3 hours to download? I guess there are still people with dial-up? They make it sound as if we will need this technology for basic survival. Despicable that some people will be entranced by the new super-fast "Grid". I'll take the red pill please.

a 1080p movie takes 1 1/2 hours to download at 10mb/s. But yeah your normal divx 700mb rip can be done in 11 minutes.

They are referring to a DVD sized movie im sure around 2GB at an advertised speed of about 3MB which is probably about average for broadband users (can be lower for DSL and quite a bit higher for cable or FIOS).

If you tried to download a massive movie like that with 56k it would take days probably lol

Now if you want to download a shitty movie from a p2p network im sure it can be done in 20 minutes..but the quality is FAR from DVD quality most of the time

edit: just noticed 5.0_CJ post..so i guess x2 lol...so yeah if it takes that long at 10mb it would be about 3 hours on a avg broadband account

Well, I know that when I was driving a truck regularly and wanted to watch a movie, I would hook my cell phone up to my laptop and download movies while I took a shower. My average shower was less than 45 minutes, and I don't think my cell phone was the greatest connection to the interweb, but I know I had movies to watch. Then the wonderous wi-fi hotspots started showing up and I had multiple movies to watch when I got done with my shower. As far as quality goes, I had some bad ones on occassion, but when they're free I don't complain. It beat the shit out of paying for duplicated porn at 2 for $10 that may or may not last thru a full jerking session.
