Ok going to edit this once more. A member here named Daywork seams to be the go to guy now. He can hook you up big time on insulation and other energy saving items on your house. The less insulation your house has the more he saves you.

Daywork is his screen name.

Dave is his name

817-913-4394 is his number. Call him you wont regret it.

Now read down to see how this all got rolling and he is not MD energy service.

Just thought about this from reading another post. Md energy service will bring your house up to a much higher R rating or so for 75.00. House has to be built in 80's-90's and have poor insulation. I have done this to my house and at least 15-20 people I know. I will try to find the number tonight. Was a smoking deal. Oncore made a huge profit and its their way of giving back.

My last edit.

I am just trying to help some of you out. I don't know this guy personally I just know that everyone I know has had this done. It knocked my electric bill down 165.00 dollars last month and my a/c / heat does not run near as much. I cant remember the exact criterias but I know for sure 80-90's house with low insulation levels and I think the 80's -90's thing was just saying hey not a new house. I cant imagine they wouldnt do houses before the 80's. Oncore will call you back and may want to visit and verify your insulation level. I cant remeber the exact R rating either I just know they pumped a lot into mine.

MD energy service 469-487-6117. Its not a low income thing either someone asked me somewhere else because of the web site. Oh and houses pretty much built 90's and back. They do all sorts of gov /txu sponsered services through out the year. Windows, plugs, sealing your a/c box. just depends on the season.

do you have to be a TXU customer or can a Reliant customer qualify?

Oh and houses pretty much built 90's and back.

So which is it? If it's just pre-90's I qualify. If it's 80-90, I don't.

So it doesn't matter who your electric provider is? I'm with Reliant, but will damn sure take advantage of it if I can.

I called them. The automated message said you could leave name, address, city, zip code and contact number and they'll call you back OR go to www.MDEnergyservice.com and sign up.

So far, it appears to be legit.

Like I said I waited a week or so and then boom he hit me and three others in my neighborhood then went and did my moms house and her friends. Which now that I am thinking about it was built in the 70's so that answers that I guess.

i clicked "contact us" and asked for them to call me about their service. if they'll come over and do my house for $75, i'm all over it...i did a rent-house myself and it cost me close to $300, but i put a ton of insulation in that place.

So is this just the spray in stuff they spray all over the attic? Iv already got that done but Im pretty sure my walls have jack crap for insulation. Anyone know if there are any alternatives other than ripping down the sheet rock and putting in new insulation in the walls?

you would get a better bang for your buck by doing something with your windows (tint, shade, low E glass, double pane filled with argon). Roof and windows are the worst places for heat gain in a building.

Did I not just read something on their site that indicates that you have to be below a certain income level in order to have this service done? Or am I looking in the wrong spot??

Oncor owns the poles/wires and reads your meter no matter who your electric provider is, so this should apply to everyone. They are formerly TXU Electric Delivery.

That is not entirely true. TNMP has some spots around DFW as well, but Oncor is the biggest TDSP in DFW.

the official oncor site shows the program to be for low income families.

Low-Income Weatherization Program – This program encourages the installation of energy efficiency measures in a consumer's home whose annual household income is at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.

Yeah, unless you live in the county and there are not any real inspectors (house built in 00 and barely has any insul. at all).

wade_racing

our house was built in 2000 as well and if you go look at the insulation it sits level with all the 2x6 studs for the ceilings... so we have 6" of insulation in the whole house. i plan on adding about 12" of blow in depending on how these people work out. they will do newer construction you just dont qualify for the low income stuff from what they said.

How far do those blowers shoot? I think the only part I actually need to get in the attic for, is my garage. I assume the rest I can stand on the ladder and spray it around.

Regardless, it shouldn't be too terribly bad. A few years back I helped my father cut, fit, and secure 2" thick foam board insulation in between the rafters on his roof in August. I think I can handle it. ;)

I'm perfectly content, thank you very much. :D

The guys I use have a machine that's good for 10-12'. Depending on how big your place is, you won't need to move around a whole lot. Just stay on the joists' and don't fall through the ceiling. I'd take it up to 16" or so, and you will notice a difference. Also, get some good caulk, and check all the windows, doors, and thresholds for light/air leaks. New door gaskets on an older home can make a big difference for just a little money.

This program is to help low income families lower their energy bills.

There a (2) different services offered
1. Attic insulation, Up to a R30 of insulation(just adding to what you have already)
2. Weatherization, Sealing air ducts, return air box, windows, doors, wrapping water heaters, pipes, and changing light bulbs(to compact florecents)(sp)

Every contractor on this program can choose to charge/or not charge for any of their services.

Oncor does pay for all,(if you qualify) or a percentage of work done.(depending if monies being paid by program covers contractors charge for service)

The way this breaks down is,

Insulation

1. You must make less than 200% below the federal poverty level.
Size of family------------------Annual Income
(1)-------------------------------20,420
(2)-------------------------------27,350
(3)-------------------------------34,340
(4)-------------------------------41,300
(5)-------------------------------48,280
Each additional person add 6,980 to annual income.

2. You don't have a Heat Pump air conditioning system
(easiest way to tell is if your thermostat says "emergency heat" on it.)

3. You don't have over 4 inches of insulation.

4. You don't have gas in your home.

5. House built before year 2000

Weatherizations

The only things to qualify for free is that the air ducts be run in the attic, and that the return be able to be sealed.

If you make too much money you won't have your light bulbs replaced.

Hope this can answer some of your questions, and if I can help anyone LMK.

If you have attic over most of your house...you will want way more than 20 bags. I did some calculating for our house...there is 1600sq ft of attic space with 8" of existing... To add another 10" of cellulose, we needed 93bags...that brings it up to a R45....which is what is recommended by the government.

Looks like my dad gave the guys at Efficient Attic a go ahead... Radiant barrier, 10" of insulation and 10 soffit vents are coming. Im going to get some attic temps before and after on relatively equal days.

I am a contractor for the Oncor program. I was the Contractor Oncor used for the Fox new and channel 8 new program. I've been on the front page on the Brownwood paper.

This is NOT only for low-Income
Your home must be built before 2002
You must use Oncor lines. You can have Stream, green Mountain and any other electic company. It just can't be a co-op.

A few things I do..

Attic Insulation.. Yes sometimes I do this at NO-Cost. Sometimes I do have to charge, it all depends on how much insulation you have in your attic.

Duct efficiency.... This is where I run a test on your duct work. If you have any leaks in the duct work I will find them and fix them for you at NO CHARGE.

Weather stripping... I run a test on your home to see how leaky it may be. You may need new door weatherstripping around the doors, insulation pads behind the outlets and switches, windows weatherstripped. If needed I do all that also at NO COST to you.

You may even get free CFL's ( compact florescent lightbulbs ).

If you have any questions, call me on my cell phone. 817-91-4394
or if any of you guys goto Kennedale on Thursdays or Sundays, I'll be in the 04 Cobra :)

Thanks

I was more interested in someone getting their ass up there and resealing all of my hard ducts. I can spray the hell out of it no problem but want no part of the pain in the ass that is re-wrapping duct work.

Anyone want to make a little cash? :D

Sorry about not leaving my whole #. But I see its posted now.

For those that left a message. I should have called back and at least left a message if I didn't talk to you.

Prices for attic insulation.. Its all different. Its not only on your income, its also based on how much insulation you have, how you heat your home ( gas or elec ).

Easiest thing to do is call me on my cell phone 817-913-4394. I will try to explain everything to you.

I did a news clip with channel 5 and 8. I will find the link and post it here. It will show you the work I do.

Give me a call, I'll take look at your attic and I'll be able to weatherstrip the doors for ya. 817-913-4394

Attics are all different, The price depends on how much insulation you have in your attic, if you heat your home with Gas or Elec, and on your income.

Osiris had 0 insulation in his attic, TXU pays me the best price for attics that have 0 insulation. Osiris should see about a 30% savings on his heating and AC bills.

If you do not have anything nice to say or want to correct my spelling etc etc then get off my thread or I will keep deleting it. I am glad to see this thread has helped some. Like I said I know the guy was for real and there was no low income stipulation at first. I also know he did an ass load of houses for me and people I know and it was a flat fee of 75.00. I'd just leave it alone, so other people can see this new guy's number and such. I guess a new thread could be posted, but why?

For the record - I left your guy a message as well as registered on the website. No return email, phone call, nothing. I think I'm justified in letting people know that he doesn't return calls. And as for your comment on "I said call him, not register on his website" Sorry man, but that's horseshit. If you have a webpage, with a place to register for information or a phone call, you should use it. That I said call him" crap really isn't an excuse for someone trying to run a profitable business. I don't know how is was doing it for a flat $75. Don't get me wrong you can do it, but only if everyone has elec heat and were low income. If a home has 2-4 inches of insulation, heats the home with GAS and in not low income... TXU will only pay the contractor .09 cents per sqft... AVG size home is 1500 sqft, So TXU would pay us $135.00. It take atleast 15 bags to insulate this home = $240.00 plus you still have to pay your workers, say thats $100. So it will cost the contractor $340.00 to insulate this home ( at NO profit ), 340.00 - 135 (TXU pay) = the contractor loses $205.00. I don't know anyone that can stay in business doing that.

What I'm trying to say is. I will give the best prices I can, but I can't do it and lose money.

Figure roughly $.30/sq ft. That does NOT include any discounts that are available dependent on the factors below.

Everyone will be different, though. It depends on your several factors.

1) Total square footage.
2) How much insulation you already have.
3) Whether your furnace is gas or electric.
4) Whether or not you are low income.

I won't be back until tomorrow, but I have talked to the wife and she is THRILLED! Considering the total cost to have it done, was only about $30 higher than my highest electric bill last summer, I think it will be well worth it and we will see a noticeable difference in our electricity bill.

I can tell you this much. Since spring my tstat setting hasn't budged from 72. It's not even July yet, and when I get home from work (5 pm) the temp has risen to 80/81 degrees. The wife walked in at about 5 today, and it was 69 degrees in the house. Just thought I'd let you guys know. I haven't even been there to experience, and I'm already satisfied. Thanks David!

Sucks for me.

I contacted Tony Thompson the head of the Texas New Mexico Residential SOP today. There is currently no contractor available for the city of Lewisville. He suggested I contact him again a couple of weeks because there may be something negotiated by then.

I guess I'll just keep on waiting. I'm really looking forward to getting this done ASAP. My insulation is only 8" in some areas.

Has anyone had any experience with that spray on aluminum for your attic roof? It's supposed to really help with heat rejection

I had a guy come out and give me an estimate on radiant barrier a while back. He gave me his estimate, and we sat around bullshitting for half an hour or so. The guy was VERY honest, and told me that the best bang for the buck is going to be adding insulation. Then to go with solar screens. Then radiant barrier, and solar attic vents or ridge vents.

Granted I didn't have much insulation to start with. That's just where he said I'd notice the most difference.

Hmm...that's very interesting. I was told that since my provider is Texas-New Mexico he can't do the work for me. I also called the rep. for the Texas-New Mexico program and he told me there is no contractor available for Lewisville. I was told to check back in a couple of weeks.

Hell, I even called Efficient Attic Systems and they told me there are no available rebates for TNPE customers, only for TXU customers. Oh, and their pricing is laughable.

I did find out that my attic is certified at R30, but that is a fabrication on the part of the builder. R30 is supposed to be 12", but mine is 8" and even 5" over my master bath. I doubt my attic even qualifies at R22.

Tex-New Mexico is just like TXU, They create thier own energy.

You can have stream, Green Mountain and any other provider as long as that provider buys the energy from TXU. People that live in Lewisville buy thier energy from Tex-New Mex.. Does that make sense?

David's guys came out to my folk's place on Wednesday, completely professional and were in and out in about an hour. Not sure about energy savings so far, the old house had 0 insulation in it, now has R-30. Before, at about 6 pm it would get up into the 80's inside the house with the ac going full blast, now it's staying at or below 75* all day long. If you want this done, David is the guy to talk to, he came to Waco just to do one house! I tried to get him another house but they didn't have enough insulation to get that house plus all the others done.

I have an appointment on July 9th with David's Company. Nice guy on the phone. I will post up with results after insulation install. I had to remove about half the insulation from my house. damn raccoons, cats and a few possum have spent some time in the attic. Cleaning that shit up was tough. took me 6 days about 2 hours at a time to remove it all.

Do you just take a ruler and push it down into the insulation until you hit the ceiling?

I have a house made in 93 and it really doesn't hold air too well...honestly I don't think my single AC unit (for a 2 story) can get it below 75* in the day.

Ok....I had the Texas/New Mexico Contractor (ACoolerHouse.com) for the Oncor program come out and conduct an audit. The only rebate I qualified for was a small rebate towards the efficiency testing.

Apparently, no "Standard Offer" rebates apply towards anything else, including the 2"-3" of pink insulation I have in some areas of the house.

BTW......My house is a 1994 model made built by Richmond American Homes of Texas. Don't ever purchase a home built by these idiots! Everything in my attic is not even up to 1994 building code, including some shabby electrical work.

Work that needs to be done to retrofit the house to bring it up to code.

- Install 3 additional soffit vents on the back of the house. There are none on that end of the house. And there is no air exchange on the soffit vents on the side of the house because the builder covered them with insulation.

- I have 3 static roof vents that obviously don't work well with my attic temps being 135+. The will install a 850cfm solar attic fan w/thermostat.

- The attic space over the garage has zero insulation. Insulate the garage area and add vent registers.

- Bring the entire attic up to either R30 or R38 depending on how much I want to pay. Right now it is insulated with the cheapest pink insulation available and the R value is roughly R20.

- Perform a test to determine how air tight the house is or isn't.

- Fix the backdoor i.e. moldings and reposition the striker for a closer fit.

- The air handler in the attic is leaking cold air in a half dozen places. The duct taped air ducts are leaking like sieves. The conditioned air intake is leaking and the filter is being bombarded with attic air. And that's why my filters are nearly saturated after just a couple of weeks. This will all will be fixed.
__________________________________________________ _________

Total price (with rebates) for all the above work at R30 values is $1,277

OR

Total price at R38 values is $1,550

Is that a fair price? Should I keep getting estimates or no?

I've referred quite a few people to David. As of a few weeks ago, when he was at my parent's house, no.

The program has been suspended by Oncor. David said it would likely start back up in June (when it gets hotter), but said that he did expect it to come back this summer.

For what it's worth, even if you don't qualify for the Oncor program, it's worth having done, and David is a hell of a guy, and has a great crew working for him. He just did radiant barrier for my parents, and will be making another trip back out to add insulation. My Dad wanted to hold off to see what kind of savings he would see with radiant barrier alone. David, I hope I'm not airing anything out you don't want on here. With my parents, he made a pricing error, and didn't calculate for enough material. He told my parents a price, and even after realizing the error he made, he stuck to the price. My Dad tried several times to give him more (hey, we all make mistakes from time to time), and David just flat out wouldn't take it. That says a lot about his character and how he runs D&A Conservation. On top of that, they were very pleased with the quality of work. I'd recommend him to anyone, and I don't make recommendations often due to all the bad that can come from it. Just my $.02.

Ya know I understand for 75.00 getting it done.

However, if you don't qualify - insulating your attic is a breeze these days. I refreshed mine awhile ago and it took all of 3 hours and that includes fetching and returning the blower. (of course 1 person was inputting the insulation with another in the attic)

Now, what I always worry about is what is going on behind the walls. Attic though...easy as can be and not very expensive.

I didnt read the entire thread but i can tell you that it is legit.......but the people I know havent been paying for the service....TXU/Oncor has. My mother in law just had hers done a few weeks back. they basically create a vacuum on the house after weatherstripping it. then go back and repair any leaks, change out lamps to CFL's, and caulk/ insulate if/where needed. All for t. I would have to ask her who or how she went about having the service done but i do know that ive had customers have the same thing done for FREE
