I say 2 weeks, depends how they are doing I think. If we go on to lose the next 5-6 out of 10 he wont suit up again this year as we'll be so far behind for the 8 spot.

Gotta love how the playoffs are set up. We've got teams in the West that will miss the playoffs at 6-7 games over .500 and the East has teams that are in that are 10 games under .500

Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki Out Indefinitely With High Ankle Sprain and Sprained Knee

DALLAS (AP) -Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks is out indefinitely with a high ankle sprain and a mildly sprained knee.

It's a blow to the Mavericks' title hopes - and perhaps their chances of making the playoffs. The team announced the diagnosis Monday, the day after the reigning MVP was injured during a game against San Antonio.

He is getting around in a protective boot without crutches.

Nowitzki is seventh in the league at 23.6 points per game this season. He's also the team leader in rebounds (8.8) and averaging a career-best 3.6 assists.

The Mavs have lost three straight, continuing a spiral since adding Jason Kidd. They are only 9-8 with the All-Star point guard and hold a half-game lead over Golden State for the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference. The Warriors play the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night.

The Mavericks have 12 games left, starting Tuesday night at home against the Los Angeles Clippers. They'll play at Denver on Thursday and at Golden State on Sunday.

The Mavericks also need to keep an eye on Denver (42-28), which is closing in on a top-eight seed. The Nuggets play at Memphis on Monday night.

Nowitzki's injury could have international ramifications: Germany is among 12 national teams vying for the three remaining spots in the Olympics. The tournament is in July.

Dallas has won at least 52 games and made the playoffs every season since 2000-01, when Nowitzki became the focal point. He led the club in scoring for the first time that season and has done so every year since, including two years ago when the Mavericks made the NBA finals and last year when they won 67 games.

Dallas is 0-1 without Nowitzki this season, having lost to Houston earlier this month when the German was suspended.

Nowitzki has had ankle problems throughout his career, but he's never missed more than six games in a season. His durability is a big reason why he recently became the leading scorer in team history.

God I fucking hate to admit it but a huge part of me has lost a bunch of interest in this team. They simply are not that good and it's sad to watch. :(

I am sick of being excited that they are winning most of the game and lose it in the last 5 minutes, makes me INSANE! Same goes for the Stars!

Well, there could be a bright side. Supposedly, the draft pick they traded for Kidd was lottery protected. If they miss the playoffs, they get that pick back, is the way I understand it.

I think it depends on the playoff race....we'll see what happens after the next 6 or so games.

I think they can beat the Clippers tomorrow, but after that, unless Josh or Stack or Jet put on their big boy ballah pants and come out with some fucking cahones, they are gonna get blown out by GS, LA, and Denver. And that'll be all she wrote.

lmao, way to go Cuban! you've gone and fucked yourself and your team!

not to mention that if he keeps up this attitude with avery, he won't have a coach next season either.

i want to say 'there's always next year', but he traded the future away.

Jason Kidd is a Mojo stealer. We'll see if arrogance carries them to the playoffs.

Dirk may have said that but Avery likes to sit his guys with ankle sprains out for quite some time before playing again

Hmm, wondering if ticket prices are going to drop a bit since all this? I wouldn't mind getting some good seats if the price is right :D

Well, I think the difference is that it's Dirk. I'd venture a guess that Dirk can pretty much call the shots on this team. If it came down to it, Cuban backs Dirk, period.

It will all depend on the playoff race, it's a wait and see IMO.

What does the trade have to do with Dirk getting hurt?

nothing.

But we are saying given up Diop, Harris, 2 round picks, and $40 mil for a 35 yrs old point guard that can't score 10 pts in last 0-8 to winning team.

I am rooting for LA Clipper tonight :)

People see Dirk going out for a while as the end of the Mavs season, and they see that Cuban traded the future away, and thus the whole reason for bringing Kidd in (to bolster the roster for this season) has wound up fruitless.

Mavericks once again blew a lead and lost. They blew a 12 point lead against San Antonio, they blew a 10 point lead against Los Angeles (Clippers), and last night they blew a 15 point lead against the Nuggets. Dallas didnt lose because of not having Dirk, they lost cause they dont continue to keep their lead and they let the opponets back in it, and thats on Avery Johnson. If the Mavericks do the same thing against Golden State and have a big lead and then lose, then Avery needs to be fired at seasons end.
