I trained a little No Gi Jui Jitsu with a buddy of mine and he was going to take me to a Ameture JuiJitsu tournament. He went to jail and have no clue where this was going to take place. Does any one know of a place where a beginner can compete?

No such thing as ametur bjj. Most big tournaments are as fallows:

MEN’S BEGINNER
MEN’S INTERMEDIATE
MEN’S ADVANCED
MEN’S ABSOLUTE Open Wt. Class

Gi will be

White
Blue
Purlpe
Brown
Black

If your going to compete it would be a good idea to train as much as you can. Jumping right in without proper trainging could get you hurt. The pros make it look easy but its not.

Lol, I rolled for like 3 months I think and I am pretty sure i'd get worked in a tourney. Same question as Nate :p

I rolled twice a week with my buddy for about two months. in the end i though i was doing pretty well at positioning and avoiding getting subed I was even able to sub him a few times.

People can compete as independents. I have competed a couple of times and follow all of the lcoal stuff over here and I have only seen one independent on a podium in 3 years.

haha,im wondering what his "buddy" has done.Cause Ive met people who've came where I've trained talking about how they used to train with "Friends" and all never come back.anyways go to a REAL gym with some people with real experience.
FYI I did a mikey burnnets first annual tournament after 3-4 months of training and go subbed by the first guy.I got the take down nice drop single into a guilotine!@!@ haha

dallas gladiators has a tourny once a month its like $25 to get in. for the people wondering about just hopping into something. keep in mind your going to be going against their students for the most part and its a double elimination. with a king of the hill afterwards.
