Do it. Chicks that ride are hot! I might be selling my bike pretty soon to get a Repsol. It's an '03 Gsx-r 600 if you're looking for something in that size/year range.

*edit* Happy B-day!

Ever rode before?

I took the safety course and always have rode on the back but never drove. I'm short so it would have to be lowered. I have a friend that said he will ride with me and help me as much as possible starting out.

Well I was looking for no more than a 600 but wasn't sure if I should start out with a smaller cc bike. I love the GSXR's. PM me the info on the bike...

I know you like the GSXR's but Kawasaki makes a really good entry level 600cc sportbike called the ZZR 600. It is actually the old ZX6 that they made in 2002 they just changed the name. It retails for $7299.

Just a thought!

Of course you could still get the ZX6R which retails for $9099!

Let me know I have them in stock for you to sit on, and see what you think.

I think there's one question anyone that wants to ride a bike should ask themselves and that is "do I freak out and panic in situations", in other words if your driving down the road in your car and someone cuts you off do you let go of the wheel and scream or do you calmly slow down move over and flip them the bird. if you freak out it's not for you. This is one sport where freaking out could cost you serious injury or worse.

If you get one and need it lowered holla at me. I've done a few in my time. ;)

lol.. I don't freak out.. and I do give them the bird and yell at them a bit. But I do know it can be scary so that's why I will take it slow when getting the bike.

No Thursday nights for me for a while... at least till I am comfortable on one.

Definitely lower it.
Good luck / ride safe

Anything I get would hav to be lowered... I just don't think I have seen any girls that are short who ride.

I know of a girl that is about exactly your height who rides a F4 (non I model) that is lowered .
I would have to call her BF to see how she is progressing but he would go out with her in the parking lots down the street from their apartment and practice riding a bit.
Basically he just rides it down there then she rides it.
That was awhile ago , she's probably riding it on the street now.

But yes, there are short girls riding 600's.
Heck if my CBRf2 was set on the lowest spring setting on the rear it might ever work.
I'm only 5 6" and I ride with it on the highest setting and I can still flat foot it.

A CBR f2 / f3 with a lowering link is perfect. Not too much power (ok who are we kiding) and they aren't too tall. + they are cheap , especially if you don't care about plastics like me.
good luck, take your time , and don't think you need a more powerful bike.
lots of riders act like they do

Okay well that makes me feel better. I for sure don't need anything with a lot of power for my first bike. Only thing is that I don't like the look of bikes without plastic... I don't know. I will look into it all though. Mine would for sure have to be lowered 3 inches... lol

well if you go with one with plastics just make sure you don't get ripped off.
A lot of people try to sell these older bikes after making them look pretty again.
Realistically they aren't worth shit.
You should be able to get one, even with plastics for less than 2K IMO.
I got mine for 1100 without plastics, then put about 400 or so in it getting LED lights etc.
Anyways, point being some people try to sell F2/F3's for 3K , when that's pretty rediculous given their age. The 2K range is about right for a lower mileage good looker..

have fun - people love the girls on bikes.

why does everyone keep recommending the f4 and not f4i? they're the exact same bike. the only difference is that the "i" meant that bike was fuel injected whereas the f4 wasn't.

I recommend a Ninja 650.

You wont have to hard of a time finding one. I'm a cruiser guy myself so when my girl told me that she wanted to ride, she got a cruiser. I didn't think that I'd be able to find one short enough but I ended up getting her a Honda Shadow 600, she's five foot nothing, and I didn't have to lower it at all or even change the seat. A buddy of mine's mom has an R6 she's 5'1" and only did the lowered it 2".

If you want one buy one, but do what you were saying: buy something cheap. Not because you think you might drop it, but because you'll probably upgrade within a season or less. Plus you want to make sure your really going to ride it a lot to make the purchase worth it.

Even though my girl wnted to ride, took the MSF coarse and has a liscense, she realized that she wouldn't ride enough to keep the bike I bought her. So we'll take a loss on the bike when the season starts up and it goes up for sale. But at least it's a loss on a few thousand vs. 9 or 10k.

Have fun, be safe and watch out for morons on the road.

Paul (89stangGT) posted the picture of the 2008 Ninja 250 which is a great looking bike. However, they are in so demand right now that they are almost impossible to get. (heak I think Paul has a list of about 30 people to call once we get our next shipment in a couple of weeks.) The bike lists for $3499. However you can still get a new 2007 Ninja 250 for less than $3000. I know you wanted a used bike but at less than 3k if you do drop it, big deal. The 250 is the perfect beginner bike, especially for someone your height! I know the 2007 250 is not the best looking bike, but it will only take a month or so to get used to and then you can move up from there. Plus, the resale on the 250's is really good.

Anyway, just something else to think about.

let me know

Ever considered a cruiser?

A Harley Davidson Deluxe is very low. I have seen some very short women riding them.

dreammachinesoftexas.com <- bought my Road King here. Mostly cruisers but they probably have the connections to get anything you want and they only do used.

When I started out I actually bought a Honda Rebel 250 and putted around my neighborhood for 6 months until I got comfortable before buying my Harley. Spent about $2k on the Honda and got most of it back when I sold it. So if you are really wanting a crotch rocket then perhaps the Ninja 250 would be a good idea to start.....

I have an 07 zzr 600. It is my third bike. I love it. I did not want to spend the extra 2k on the zx-6. This bike has plenty of power and is very quick. I only weight 175lbs so it is plenty for me. The problem I have is I am 6'2" so I feel like I sit a little high on it. I do think you should probably start out smaller on a usefd one then upgrade.

not if it's used...she could probably buy one, ride it until she's comfortable, then sell it for as much as she bought it for when she wanted to upgrade, if she shops around.

Anyone would have to be crazy to waste their money on a 250.

Take this for what it's worth, but a 250 for a first time rider is not a waste of money. I have been in the motorcycle business for 3 years and have seen countless number of kids wreck their new 600cc+ bike within the first month or so of owning it. Unfortunatley I know 2 that have died :( I am not talking about just dropping in the parking lot, I am talking about an actual wreck. These wrecks happened simply because the rider could not handle the power at first. Hell, I have seen a few kids let the clutch out too much (for example) and wreck the bike in our parking lot.

On the other hand however, I have seen kids ride away just fine on the bigger sport bikes with no issues. The fact of the matter is, some people are just more coordinated and much more well balanced than others. I am not trying to steer you away from a 600cc sport bike, I am just saying that a 250 is not a waste of money!

I agree. I been riding since I was 8. I owned three street bikes. The one before the zzr was a 750 crusier from the 80's. I had not ridden in about two years when I bought the zzr. If was not expierenced enough to work the clucth I would have dropped it in parking lot. The new bikes are so responsive. I took off for the first time and the rpms went to about 6000 but the bike barely moved because I knew to feather the clucth. It took me about a 100 miles just to feel comforable with the throttle. I had a ninja 250 in high school it does make a good begining bike. Espicially if you weigh around a 100lbs. These bikes will run well over a 100 mph.

Thank you for the advice. I am going to shop around and maybe go to a shop and sit on a few to see what fits me the best then start looking for a used one. Like everyone has mentioned, a used one is the way for me to go that way I don't have a lot of money in something that might get scratched from first time riding.

After I get experience, I want a GXSR 600... I love the looks of them.

I need to talk to her then. Helps to talk to someone that's the same size to see how comfortable it feels to them when lowered as much as even 4 inches and how it handles… that sort of stuff.

The Suzuki SV650 v-twin is a great performer but also a solid starter bike that you won't immediately outgrow. They're plentiful and won't break your budget.

Just my 2¢.

Regardless, take the rider's course, ride like you're invisible to all other drivers when in traffic, relax and have a great time - you will not regret it.

So I was at his house last night and his friend has a Hayabusa and has his lowered 3 inches and his fairings are all torn up on the bottom from the bike bottoming out. It looked horrible. I never thought of that with me being short and needing to have it lowered, but I sat on it and it was just right for me height wise. I just don't want to deal with scratching everything underneath.

You shouldn't have any problems with scraping as long as you are careful and miss speed bumps and big holes in the road. You can have the bike raised up until you are on your tip toes that way you wont bottom out as easily on stuff.

Besides lowering the bike, you can also cut the seat down as well. Or if you need to you can use the two methods in conjunction so you can flat foot it, and keep some clearance.

it's also what you have to do to dual-sport bikes such as the KLR, since you can't lower it or you'll decrease ground clearance that the bike needs to have.

You do realize that the 600cc sportbikes of today are just as fast, if not faster than the 900-1000cc bikes of just 6-7 years ago? Back then were 5 foot tall women starting out on 1000cc bikes? If your 5' your not going to flat foot unless you either have long legs or the bike is slammed to the point of scraping everywhere, sorry....just reality. ;)

I replace my lowers about once a year, they don't scrape a lot but I like my bike spotless.

Your only going to be comfortable after many rides and then your still not going to be completely comfortable sitting at a stop light if the wind is blowing to hard, trust me. :D I have never blown over but I have been caught off gaurd and come close.

Sherman Powersports? Stay away from there! If you are looking for a used one, I'd look on here, Craigslist, Ebay(local to avoid shipping), etc. Every used one I've seen at a dealership isn't priced much below a used one. If you have financing/cash already arranged, it makes it better when you spot a decent deal, you can go pick it up. I know you are pretty-set on a GSXR, but go sit on some, see what you like/don't like/etc.

That's what I wanted to do is sit on a few and see what fits better. I wanted to look at Sherman Powersports because I have been there before and knew they had some decent bikes before and not badly priced. Again, I'm not looking for anything real expensive for my first bike.

In regards to Sherman Powersports, most of what I heard was just people getting screwed financing through them, crazy interest rates, and prices not being that great. I'd figure out what you want, and just look for that bike when it pops-up through a private sale or Ebay. You will know by meeting someone, looking at the bike, talking to them, etc pretty fast if it was taken care of or not.

Gars brother here. The best bike for us short people is the GSXR's. You can lower them and they ride good and no fairing issues at all. I am 5'1" and have no problems touching on both sides. I was surprised I could barely touch tippy toe from the factory. I lowered mine a little in the front and about 2" in the back. Sits perfect and I am very comfortable on it. It is a 2006 GSXR1000 by the way. Not saying you want a 1000 but for me it is the best fit and I have had plenty of bikes in the past. Kawis have high seat height and lower fairings. You have to practically slam them to be comfortable with touching.

Let me know if you want to see some pics or want to sit on one sometime. The new GSXR's are also very narrow in the center so also better for us short folks. I love mine and has been the best bike I have owned.

Start with a smaller displacement bike - preferably one you don't mind scratching up.
Get comfortable riding it - it's probably going to get dropped a time or two or three while you are learning.

After you get comfortable & confident riding sell it & upgrade to a larger bike.
