Actually it helped Pontiac a lot more than you think. The dealerships got flooded with people wanting the "KITT" option that GM demanded the show ditch the name TRans Am. That is why in the later seasons it is referred to as a "black T-Top".

The whole thing was a bad long Ford Commercial, the Ford Edge gainging on the Cobra was a horrible sequence! Big thumbs down on the morphing back and forth of the car too. Just let it be fast and bullet proof, worked back then and wouldve worked now. The girl on there was hot and one of the only reasons i watched it but there was no suspense. Boo!

btw, did anyone notice the original kitt in the garage wasnt an 83 like what was originally in the show? it showed a TPI intake which is wrong because all 83's were carb'd motors. that and the fact that the original kitt ran on hydrogen and was powered by a turbine.
