Call of Duty 4; Worth buying?

Been looking at Call of Duty 4; Modern Warfare and it looks badass... Just wanting some feedback from the community or maybe some tips to other badass FPS games... Thanks.

if not- yeah its worth buying, great single player(difficult if you play it on a higher difficulty) and multiplayer is amazing- but buy it on PC

Buy it on any platform you fell like it, it's plays great on consoles, and your computer, well, i don't know it's specs, but if it'll make the game run like shit, then there isn't a reason to buy it for the computer.
Single player will keep you entertained, and the multiplayer will get you addicted.

I have it for my 360 and enjoy it. What I enjoy the most is you can upgrade your weapons and modify your character vs alot of other shooting games.

I've never tried co-op, but another board member says co-op sucks on COD4. Like, you're playing 1vs1 or some stupid shit. Hopefully jluv will chime in soon.

Ya, there is no split-screen campaign mode like there is with Resistance. You can go around playing against each other 1 on 1 but that gets old quick.

I love both games, and I have still never played anything online.

well i played through the demo for pc and had to set most of the graphics settings to low or off for maximum playability. It was a lot of fun and liked the dynamic objectives/fast pace. Although the main draw for me was the cutting edge graphics... with the settings how I had them they were only slightly better than what I've seen on my PS2... :( I guess in the end i need to just save up for a ps3 or 360.

If you're buying it for media(bluray): ps3

If yo'ure really into FPS games, then the 360 is going to be the way to go. Not only are the games better (so far), but for a fps, the controller layout is much more accomodating.

I haven't played consoles in over 3 years since world of warcraft release... Since i quit the game i've been looking for something to somewhat fill the void that was left in my gaming experience on the PC but without buying an entirely new system and dropping a couple g's i cant do it... Looks like a ps3 is in my future :o

I do enjoy the controller layout of the xbox, but from what I've seen the PS3 has superior graphics and seems like it will have better longevity in the market. Also from what I've heard from friends if you have an internet connection you can play the PS3 online for no additional charge, whereas the xbox requires you to pay a monthly fee to play online.. Granted, they both have their upsides and downsides, right now the PS3 seems the right choice for me.

If $50 a year is going to break you, then blu-ray prices and game prices are going to hurt you a lot more.
As much as i've been a sony fan in the past, i have a little more faith in an online service that has revenue to perform upgrades and service repairs in a timely fashion.

I would bet that all of the people that really enjoy the multiplayer never spent any time on any of the battlefield series. If you did you would know what I'm talking about. More or less....COD is o...k... in small doses. Just the idea of putting 30 or so people on maps no bigger then 1 single solitary flag point in BF2 and then making it where you are safe from gun fire virtually NO WHERE (because almost all surfaces are penetrable) gets a little old. Then to add insult to injury there aren’t any vehicles you could play in and because of that there isn’t as much variety so its easier to get bored.

<---Never played Battlefield. But yes, I do enjoy the multiplayer. There are a few things I don't care for such as random spawning, but you get used to it. The only other FPS online experience I have is the SOCOM series. I like SOCOM a little better, but I like the game modes in COD are better. I play that shit for hours on end. My wife hates it.

i've played BF 2 and BF 2142. I like both. Liked bf214 more, but if i was to put bf2, bf2142, and cod4 all three side by side, and judge them on how much i liked them when i started playing them, how much they held my interest, and how much playability they have when i get bored, i'm going to hold COD4 above the other two.

I'm not a newbie to fps online games, and i can't begin to say how many school nights and summers were wasted on games like Counter Strike and Day of defeat (not the new source crap, back when those games were practically free.)

COD4 will not be a buy you'll regret, and if you have to get it for a console, then a 360 is what you'll want.
If $50 a year for online gaming will break you, then either console will be bad for you when you go to buy a game, or a blu-ray movie.

Do what all the big ballers do. . . buy both and cover all the bases. :)

People talk about the PS3 being so expensive, but it has free online, which saves you $60 a year, and that's another $60 to add to the price of a 360 which makes it more expensive than a PS3 at $399

I have both hooked up to a samsung 1080p tv using hdmi and cod4 on the ps3 is better than on the xbox. period. It is smoother graphically and much more crisp. In the end the ps3 will come out on top as Sony game products always do.

Graphics comparisons have already been performed over and over by different game reviewing companies, and the 360 comes out on top, so far.
In the future, that may change, but who wants to buy a good graphics producing system with a shitty game library? At that point, gaming is your secondary priority, and blu-ray is your first.

first off, dont suck. Second join team deathmatches and sabotage i think for the most points. The more kills u get early on the more exp. Later u can try to complete challenges to get extra exp.

You rank up by completing challenges. Your challenges can be found in the Barracks. However, challenges aren't unlocked until lvl 5 I think.


Like the other guy said. Don't suck. You obviously get more points for headshots. When you unlock challenges, you will unlock the custom weapon slots. You have to get 25 kills with a weapon before you can unlock the red dot sight with that weapon. Then 75 kills will unlock the next item for that weapon, so on and so forth.


As far as tips go - Get good with grenades. I don't like using them, but if you don't get damn good with your aim your teammates will get pissed at you, and you will get eaten alive by the people that are tossing grenades one after another.

Get good with the RPG. If you don't, you're going to get your ass kicked.

On 'Shipment', your best bet is to get the M249SAW and mow mother fuckers down. Once you hit 25 kills with the SAW, go add the red dot sight to your weapon. Then you can really fuck people up on that stage.

The biggest edge you're going to get, is to learn the maps. If you learn the maps, you shouldn't have too many problems.

I went into prestige mode and am now a level 33 on the second go around.

For those that hit prestige think before doing it as it takes away all of the weapons and you basically start over with a new symbol next to your name.

some reason I like using P 90 with a silencer, 3 frag, stopping power, deep impact. I had my best game using that. I went like 76 kills and 19 deaths. Heck I remember one game before I had the 3 frags unlock, I had 48 kill, 49 assists, 50 deaths :D


Oh and the game is very sweet. I didn't like these kind of games at first. It took me alittle time to get used to it. I was used to Halo. way different style in playing.

the mp5 is the best submachine gun. bandolier, stopping power and steady aim ftw.

But the reason the other guys fps is lower in multiplayer is prolly bc of the number of people playing. If you have 25 people in there instead of 1 actual person the framerate is gonna be lower.

Just play mercenary team deathmatch so you don't get stuck against uber clans. You can be good using any gun, just try to get a gun that matches your playing style.

Oh, and as mentioned, learning the maps is the biggest thing of all shooters.

I still fuckin' love this game. Yes, there are some small annoyances, but really, you're interacting with a dozen+ assholes from all over the world that have different takes on how to play the game. There are going to be some things that piss you off.

As far as getting good, yeah, it really helps to know the maps. For that, you can do private match, and just run around by yourself and learn your surroundings. Also, the fun is exponentially multiplied when you have a buddy or two (or six) that you're playing with.

One fun drill that Levi and I have done is turn the killhouse at the beginning of the single player mode into a drinking game. Each run through it, the one with the slower time drinks. :D It's good fun, and helps you Aim-Acquire-Fire, and repeat. It also improves your skills for PWI (playing while intoxicated)

Well, on Mercenary Team Deathmatch, friendly fire is turned off, so it doesn't matter if you shoot your boys. Couple that with the fact that everybody on your team looks like they're from the same army, (Marines vs. Ragheads / SAS vs. Russians) and your team has their green name above their head... it really couldn't be much simpler.

most kills on that map -- 115
and one time I was going for alot of assist. I had 48kills and 49assist in one game on shipment.
