Vox AC15CC1X (with the AlNico celestion blue speaker) or Peavey Classic 30.

I'm stuck on these two. I'm leaning towards Vox because of the heritage and the 15 watts fits my apartment much better than 30. Plus I'd have an option away from my Mesa Lonestar Special for gigging smaller Denton clubs that don't need more than 15 watts.

play both see what you like. I actually demo'd both of those amps today and actually liked the sound out of the peavey better. Its all in what kind of sound your going for.

Unfortunately there have been some problems of late with the AC30s (none mentioned with the AC15s yet). The input jacks are wobbly and loose. And they've been outsourced to Vietnam for production just like everything else.

So quality wise I'd probably take the Peavey. But tone wise I'm still leaning towards the VOX. Something about the British Invasion sound just gets it. Plus the cleans + an overwound single coil like the texas specials in one of my strats is just pure gold. And the VOX does a fairly decent impression of Texas Blues when you crank the bottom end. Will the Peavey do an early 60s classic rock impression? I have yet to mess with it.

how much are you looking to spend? .... I've got a Marshall 50DFX just sitting in my room. I bought it as a backup amp and have played maybe 12hrs on it in the year and a half that I've had it. I'd be willing to part with it here's a link with more info on the amp if you're interested...

Absolutely love their amps.

The Vox's are nice amps, but as you pointed out, they've had quality woes as of late.

Not a huge fan (generally) of anything Peavey, but I can't say I know anything about that model.

From an old crusty player like me, if it ain't got no tubes in it, it ain't gone no soul. Go to ebay and look up in musical inst. "18 watts" and "5e3". Several small amps in 18 watts from plexis to voxes. 5e3 is the old Fender Deluxe. Most of these are one trick ponys, but they do there trick very good. :cool:

I wouldn't go with the VOX AC's

However the AD valvetronix are kick ass. I have an AD50VT and it sounds fantastic. I've never heard anyone call the quality of the valvetronix amps into question.. but then I'm sure I haven't been playing as long as folks like Breedlove.

Well I played the classic 30. TOO loud for my apartment. The thing was shaking wall painting in the guys house that is selling it. With the Post volume on 2 and the Pre volume on 6.

Damn. It was only 200 bucks for the old beat up tweed one he had though. I may buy the Vox for my practice amp and go back and get the peavey to play live.

Also I've heard good things about Crate's new line of Palomino tube amps.

Also, remember that the vox AC line doesn't have footswitchable distortion. It can be "blended", but I'll be damned if I can figure out how the fuck to do that properly. I sold my AC 30 because it was too god damned heavy to lug around to gigs. I was using the AC 30 for distortion and a deluxe deville for clean. Now I use the deluxe for both.

Just look at decent practice amps. I agree with line 6 amps, as they're versatile and most have onboard effects. But if you can snag a decent vintage 5-18 watt amp, I would do it. Some of them can get pricey though.

I try not to mess with solid-state or modeling amps. They just don't sound the same. Some come close, but for the price I would pay for a high end Line 6 I could get a sweet tube amp.

The distortion on the AC amps is built just like most classic 60s amps were. Master Volume and Pre Amp Volume. Master down, Pre Amp up = more distortion, and vice versa for cleans.

Find an old Fender Champ and do the tweed mod to it and replace the speaker. Small, lite, and have a great od sound to it. Everyone that has played my loves it. You can sometimes find Champs for under $200.

Well the Vox blows. Seriously, now I know why they charge another 300 bucks for that Celestion Blue speaker. Because this one sounds HORRIBLE.

Its going back tomorrow. Most likely trading for a Blues Jr. Lacquer Tweed Limited Edition. Or a Blues Deluxe.
