(C&P from an e-mail I just got)
We're Going Blu-ray
Dear Grant,
You're receiving this email because you have asked to receive high-definition movies in the HD DVD format. As you may have heard, most of the major movie studios have recently decided to release their high-definition movies exclusively in the Blu-ray format. In order to provide the best selection of high-definition titles for our members, we have decided to go exclusively with Blu-ray as well.
While we will continue to make our current selection of HD DVD titles available to you for the next several months, we will not be adding additional HD DVD titles or reordering replacements.
Toward the end of February, HD DVDs in your Saved Queue will automatically be changed to standard definition DVDs. Then toward the end of this year, all HD DVDs in your Queue will be changed to standard definition DVDs. Don't worry, we will contact you before this happens.
You can click here to change your format preferences.
We're sorry for any inconvenience. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please call us at 1 (888) 638-3549.

just got that same email today. Thats BS. dammit, i have two HD DVD players. I'm glad they were cheap and still have great upconversion of SD's. I was hoping HD DVD would win cause i hate SONY and boycott their crap. I guess i'll have to breakdown when other companies start making blu ray players and get one.

I held out on HD-DVD's as long as I could. I saw this coming at christmas though and went ahead and bought the PS3. Oh well, atleast my HD-DVD player was a christmas present last year.

Don't forget Best Buy is now only supporting Blu-ray, we will still carry HD-dvd in stores but Blu-ray will be the format pushed and eventually the HD-DVD's will be gone from the shelves with the swiftness.

I think the only ones we have in stock are the A-30's which were crap anyway, but yea I was hoping it would get announced sooner. They are really trying to drag this out as long as possible and it's really sad.

Now there are reports of Toshiba ending production of HD-DVD players within a few weeks...gets better by the day.
I watched Bourne Ultimatum this week on HD DVD, other than that mine hasn't been used in months. The Blu Ray player on my PS3 gets used 2-3 times a week though.

yup, wal-mart isn't selling HD-DVD now either. But Toshiba withdrawing support is the single biggest nail in the coffin; they were it's biggest promoter and now that they're gone, it's over!
thank god, because I was tired of hearing about the format wars.

No thank God.
While HD DVD and Blu Ray were equal in video quality, HD DVD had the edge in audo. This is a sad day for me :(

I thought word was that Blu Ray had the edge in audio due to the higher capacity, and thus more room to store more native, uncompressed audio?

And another thing, you can not take advantage of the higher quality audio with Blu Ray unless you have a receiver equipt with an HDMI input.
Toshiba produces superior audio over analog conections. To take advantage of Sony's highest quality audio, I have to upgrade my receiver($1500 for me) :(

That's not a nail in the coffin, it's the back hoe finishing up digging the grave.

Fuck HD discs period. I'll just keep using my HD DVD player to upconvert all of the standard discs. I cannot tell enough of a difference betweeen the two anyway to make it work buying the more expensive discs. I'm not going to go out and buy a new player and then have to upgrade my 1 year old reciever, which doesn't have HDMI inputs.
