nothing IMO damn theives will steel your shit.. My Kenwood was stole.. month later took the entire truck... I have 3 friends that all HADKenwood and they have all been stolen in the last 2 months...
Alpine IVA-D105 is good for iPod, reliable, built in Dolby processor, and no separate brain to install.
Alpine IVA-D310 is discontinued, ipod contol is sluggish and requires an add on module, has a brain, bigger screen, more onscreen controls than D105. Great unit.
Kenwood 719 has larger screen than D105, separate brain, better ipod control including on screen album art and video control.
Lesser brands like Jensen triple suck and barely function. Yes, they are only $300. If that is all someone has, they need to be buying a regular CD player IMO.

just be patient and wait for a nice used unit to go on sale. only units i would buy new is alpine just because you dont see the the newer units being sold used too often since people just keep them for ever...
BEFORE YOU GET A SCREEN!!!!!! tint your windows and/or get a decent paging alarm. i got my shit stolen and i had windows tinted and a shit alarm. did i mention the bastards broke into when the truck was about 30 ft from the restaurant window and the alarm went off...
for my use (occasional nav and sometimes a few movies but mostly ipod) my pioneer D3 was great other than the ipod interface was pretty slow. got it for $500 used. just be patient, check this site and craigslist religiously... or go to EW and buy an alpine :p
