Ok I just recently purchased a 97 X-cab GMC sierra. I am stuck as to which way to go with a decent sub and encloser choice. I am not wanting anything crazy just something that will carry the broad range of music I listen to. I plan on keeping my backseat so I guess that really limits my choices, so I figured I would post up and ask the more seasoned guys opinions.

If you guys have any imput on the best way to go I would really appreciate it. :D

Me personally, I really like the old JL W0 line. I have a first gen. 12W0 in a sealed box and it plays everything beautifully. The only downside is it doesn't do extremely low bass as well as ported but most REAL music doesn't have that anyhow.

Yeah I think my only choice really will be a sealed box since I am wanting to keep the back seat in the truck.

well, you could always get a solid 10" sub and throw it in a ported box (smaller box) and put it on top of the seat... then you could only be able to fit 2 people instead of 3 but how often do you really use the whole bench?

kinda depends on your budget though man. mtx is my choice for cheaper-mid level subs. for most people, just find a good deal on a 10" sub (major brand) and put it in a sealed box if you want it under the seats. frequency response is going to be very similar in a sealed box regardless of quality (as long as its not a lightning audio and a JL :p )

EW was explaining to me though that you lose a large amount of mid level bass with downfiring subs (what you'll have to do if you throw a sub under your seat) and thats what turned me off...

theres 3 10w3s on here for sale man... buy one of those if he will part them out and you should be very happy with w.e enclosure you do

If you want to hear what the JL Stealthbox sounds like give me a shout and you can check it out in my 98 GMC Extended cab. The Stealthbox came with a JL 10W0 subwoofer installed and I have it hooked up to a Linear Power 2202IQ with a good Audiocontrol crossover. That amplifier is WAY overkill for that box and speaker, but it sounds pretty good unless you try to pound it like its a pair of 12's. I too wanted to keep the spare tools under the seat and that was pretty much the only way to do it with that body style truck.

Im in Duncanville. If you wanna check it out shoot me a PM.

well... for most trucks that wouldnt be efficient...

kickers need to be in ported boxes... pretty much end of story lol. they are IMO entry level SPL subs that sound okay and need to be placed in a box that does that. i dunno how the hell you can fit TWO 12 inch subs UNDERNEATH a bench seat w/o a drastic seat lift even in a sealed box and i know you cant (again with proper specs) put a ported box for those under a seat.

<<< Doesnt like kicker subs very much... decent amps though :p

I have custom made 2 -12 sealed box. They fit any '88-98 x cab truck. The box is for
2 - 12s downfiring. NO need to move the rear seat at all.
I have the box for sale also.
I had 2-rf p2 12s in it and it sounded very good.

nope, just folded it up. the box takes about 5 mins to take out, so if anybody ever needs to ride back there its not too much work

I'll tell you what. I'll make you one hell of a deal. I will custom build you a box, with 2 brand new RE Audio 12" subs (re-12d4) model number, with a brand new Hifonics amplifier installed for $550 out the door. Carpeted or fiberglass box your choice.

ummm... have you heard of a subsonic filter you fuckin noob? obviously not...

either lack of knowing how to port the box and properly tune your amp or the combination of that and not knowing how to pair subs with the proper amp...

please explain to me how killing a sub is any different from blowing it? you screw up the spider, coil, or motor... either one of those "blows" a sub, so please explain "kill."

starved??? wtf?

<--- Has not blown a speaker. Using a woofer in an improper enclosure or driving an amp into clipping is how you blow subs.

What about pounding the crap out of entry level subs for 10 years until they finally say uncle? ;)
