my buddy has the p-22 tactical with the threaded barrel, he has silencer for it to and it's tons of fun to shoot and seems to be a great little gun for plinking, messing around with.....Anything other than that I'd go with the P-99 or something similar.

I have a P22 with a silencer.

It's a fun plinking .22. No complaints from me.

I was looking them and they seem to be perfect for me. The guy working said they dont kick or anything. Which I have only shot a few guns and all of them kicked real hard.

What caliber of guns do you normally shoot? .22LR is an economical caliber to learn how to shoot with especially for people who are a little gun shy with noise and recoil. If you aren't particular to the Walther, take a look at a Ruger MK II.

All of these are excellent guns to learn on. I shot competively for 20+ years and I used a .22 for my daily shooter to keep my rythm on track. ( I quit about 8 years ago - my eyesight is too bad.) I started all my daughters out on .22 Rugers. Then I graduated them up to 9mm and .38 special target (light) loads.

Guys tend to like to stoke their guns with hi-powered magnum loads. (down guys we are talking firearms here!). Probably what has happen to you is that someone has said "Here shoot my gun!" and loaded it up with the hottest loads they could find. Let's face it, magnum loads are fun to shoot - but not for long.

Start with a .22 and then try a 9mm. Get a gun that you can hold and point comfortably. Get one that fits your hand. I have small hands and have a hard time with guns that have big grips or double stack magazines. Small guns have more felt recoil, large guns are heavier and harder to stay on target with. Get something in the middle.

Most all major gun manufactures make a quality firearm. Don't worry about brand name as much as "does it fit me?" and "can I shoot with it?" I would go to a shooting range that has a large rental selection. The Bullet Trap in Plano is fairly good. Pick all the guns that interest you, feel them, point them, and then go shoot a couple. You will find your likes and dislikes pretty quickly.

You want one for target practice and not ccw I assume?

I have a walther P22. Its ok, very very very picky on what ammo you feed it. the thing jams up like crazy all the time though if you dont give it the right ammo. And it does shoot most of the shells right at your head. If you get on the walther forums there are pages of tips on how to get it tweaked right to where it wont spit the shells at your head. I just never got around to it since its only my 22 and i dont shoot it very much. IMHO its not a very good 22. If i could do it again i would get something else. But it was only $200, so whatever, i'll keep if for plinking around. It is a very easy pistol to shoot though, for someobody like my wife to learn on. No recoil, sounds like a cap gun too, pretty quiet.

I've got the Walther P99 .40cal and I haven't noticed any problem with shells being ejected towards my head. Which they are practically the same gun, just different calibers.

If you were to ask me which .22 pistol you should buy if you're looking for something fun, in-expensive, accurate and easy to shoot. The I would point you to a Ruger Mark II.

If you want a .22 semi auto pistol that resembles a 9mm, looks cool, shoots well and is a little priceier (sp). Then I'd say go with a Sig Sauer Mosquito.

Stay away from the Walther.

I would hope you are using this weapon for target/for fun shottong only. And not for a personal/home defense weapon. even though every caliber of bullet is dangerous anything as small as a .22 or ever a .32 is almost worthless for defense.

Fo sho! i esp would never rely on my P22 as a self def weapon. that pos is about as reliable as my car.

If your looking at a semi auto and want a cool looking pistol, 380's seem to be popular for girls. Small enuf to fit a girls hands comfortably and they dont kick bad either.
