Is this a realistic moa rifle? Curious whether to take off the carry handle and throw a decent 3-9x40 on it or just to take it as the tactical rifle it is.

I'd hunt down an ACOG in 4x, and you're good at several useful distances. Take Jester's advice from another thread and buy a snap cap to practice squeezing the trigger with. Good luck.

I much more the budget hunter so not so sure on the ACOG. What about a $100 red dot that would serve the AR nicely?

I wouldn't shoot pigs with it. .223 just isn't a great bullet for that. I know it's done with regularity, but a pig hunt can go wrong fast if all you get to do is wound one. Murphy's law needs to come into consideration on dangerous game hunts.

if a 223 cant put down a pig, then we have some serious shit to deal with this hunting season

i have plenty back up fire arms but im pretty sure 20 .223 rounds will stop a pig.

You need to tell that to the hog I shot last week. :D
Actually i use 55gr 5.56 Guat

Lots of people are popping them with 17HMR and .22mag.

also not looking to shoot a 400lb one just a nice lil 70 or so one to compliment some leftover deer meat.

I think any good upper is capable of 2 MOA. I know the RRA Predator Pursuit that I have is rated at 1 MOA.

Just check the manufaturer's website.

I went on a hog hunt back in November of 2002. A friend shot a 130lb female hog at about 50 yards with an AR15. The shot hit the neck just behind the head and it fell where it was.

We shot man sized targets at 500 yards with a M-16a2, we didn't shoot anything closer than 200 yards either.... I could actually hit my 4 inch marker every round on calm days, usually shot high 230's out of a 250 possible...I realize you are giving up barrel length with the M4, but I don't see why they can't shoot almost as good.

i guess i always could just take off the carry handle and throw a scope on this and give it a try.

would it be possible to ever go back and forth between a scope and carry handle or would you lose your zero completely each time?

Depends on the quality and fitment of the mount.

The good manufacturers will guarantee their mounts to "hold zero" no matter how many times the optics/mount are taken on and off of the rail. (A.R.M.S, LaRue, etc)

Optics don't make a rifle 2 MOA, 1MOA, or SubMOA.

Design and quality of manufacture does.

so does knowing your equipment, and practice. not everyone can pick up anything and hit the center.

I thought we were talking about the rifle here? If you have a sloppy gun, no amount of high dollar optics or precision shooter will negate that fact.

I've put down plenty of deer with a .22L, I'm sure my AR would handle a pig.
A .223 shouldn't be considered inhumane.
