I love it in .308 Its a nail driver at 125yds with a 4.5-16x42. I also have a sheet at 175 or 200, but I am just getting into long range shooting. Even through 100-200 isn't that long of range. I'll post a picture of a target sheet when I get home. Needless to say, I am very impressed with factory internals. A trigger job will come in the future, but I am happy with it. Some say the weight of pull is heavy, but I find its pretty light for me.

Im not talking .50 cal...get a .300 Win Mag or a .300 Ultramag for alittle more reach.Seems to me like the .300 Win Mag is fairly common, while I haven't seen many rifles chambered for .300 Ultramag. How much more distance/accuracy will the Ultramag have over the .300 Win Mag in a given rifle?
I'm leaning pretty heavily towards an FN PBR in .300WSM. It'll do what the .308 will, just with less bullet drop.

It has alot more powder capacity when compared to the 300 Win Mag. You can expect ~ 400-500 fps faster with the same given bullet weight when loaded at Max. Almost 20gr powder differance in the case. That could turn into a significant gain out at 1000 yards, especially when the wind is blowing. It would allow the used of 200 and 220 gr bullets to buck the wind better.

So do you want a brake or a can(silencer)? They serve two very different purposes.
uwona
01-23-2008, 10:38 PM
I couldn't tell you who makes it but the recoil is reduced to nothing between the weight of the gun and the brake. It is louder than hell though, the only thing worse is a shorty G3K. It makes people flinch when you turn it loose. This was my other .308 before ammo prices started killing me. Damn 20 round mags cause you to waste too much ammo.

I was the weakest link in the chain when it came to shooting that rifle. Beautiful rifle and the guy I bought it from had it set up perfectly with the scope and bipod. I should have never sold it but I had plans to buy an M1A Scout Rifle and wound up not being able to afford it. Now I've sorta set my mind on a .223 bolt action to keep it in the same caliber as my AR.

right next to the "go fuck yourself" button. Honestly why knock me? YOu could have said cool and then when on to say how you are shooting tighter at 500yds. If you read post #16 it says I am just getting into long range shooting. Not everyone can pickup a rifle and bang out a quarter group at 500 yds.

Here are a few I have had over the years. Steyr CISM, Savage, and DPMS LR308. Some groups also, the first is from the Steyr, the second from the DPMS. I used Hornady TAP 110gr for both. I knew I pulled one with the DPMS. I still had the factory trigger in it. I installed a Chip McCormick drop in, what a difference!!

I loved the DPMS. The factory trigger is not the best, but that's an easy fix. It is easily a 1/2 MOA gun out of the box. If I would have kept it I wanted to either get the factory barrel cut down to 20" or get a barrel built for it. I've had many people ask why I didn't use 168 Federal match ammo as that seems to be the standard. Well, I did and it didn't do any better than the 110 TAP at the distances I have access to. For the money I don't think you can beat the LR308.

Yeah, I was doing the groups he showed on his target at 500..........not quarter groups. Yes, quarter groups with irons is very laughable.
At the distance he was saying with a scope(125-200yds), quarter groups are not unreasonable at all.
Is it clear now?
Watch your range flags, hold your breath, squeeze between beats, mark in our log book your shot prediction, spot scop shot, make adjustments if necessary..........repeat. If you are not using a bench rest or some other rest, a loop sling should be doing it's best to cut your arm off.

hey. were cool. Just try not to knock someone that has been shooting at 100yds for what almost 2 months. I just got the scope recently and with being a full-time employee and students, its hard as hell to get time for myself to go shooting. When I go, I usually take all my guns so I can practice. I have shot my rifle a total of 0 times since 12-18-07. I'll get better with time. Just remember everyone cant shoot as well as you. ;)

Oh yea taking an A2 or A4 I can have TIGHT ass groups at the 200 standing with iron sights and sit pretty happy from the rest of the KD range too. But then again so can most of the Marine Corps lol :D :D I'd still rather have a mah deuce on teh top of my 7 ton to tear some shit up.

What are you trying to shoot at over 200yds with those light bullets? TAP is for fire fights.
98BlownSS
01-27-2008, 08:15 AM
Those light bullets do just fine on the four legged critters out to 200 yards. I am sure they would do fine on two legged critters well past 200. Sure the heavier bullets will have an advantage once you get out past 500 yards. However, I am a firm believer in the 110gr TAP ammo.
My 6.8SPC Rock River sure likes the Hornady 110gr also.
Fair enough. They do make TAP in 155gr and 168gr as well. I am a huge fan of Hornady's moly-coated BTHP match ammo in anything it's available in. If you get a chance, give it a try.

Get a good 308 Bolt action gun and it can shoot up to 800 yards accurately. Generally the M1A's will shoot out to 500+ Yards accurately, but they are pricey.

Okay, don't feel like quoting or any other shit, so this refers to everyone I talked to.
Yes, I am a Marine. Former Marine of 8 years(no such thing as an ex - thanks Wade). Shot expert at all times on the range and have a brother that was a marine sniper and he and I would constantly compete. I can beat him shooting, but I will be goddamned if I lay in an ant pile while waiting on an enemy...........he is just fucking nuts. :D
EVERYONE can shoot as good as me with proper teaching and patience. You gotta be willing to wait out the wind and really concentrate on what your body is telling you.
When you get into some serious distance(1000yards +) don't be afraid to sand your trigger finger down to really feel the sucker. Get you a lighter trigger. Buy the best fucking ammo they make and get to practicing.
To save a lot of money and your firing pin, buy you some snap caps for your rifle and constantly snap in. I spent 4 years of my life coming home and watching tv with the rifle in my hand. I would get into all my firing positions and just stay there and sight in on people on tv. There needs to be zero discomfort at all with it in your hand..............just like your dick.
I am not one of these guys that can sit around and talk about this match grade ammo or how many grain or feet per second or any of that other crap. I just know how to do what I do.
