I'm curious about this too.. I have some black plastic on my car that has some white spots on it.
I heard ArmorAll does this to plstics by drying them out and I believe that is what happened

The best thing I have heard of is called either pig spit of hog spit and they sale it at harley dealerships. It is specific for ruff metal surfaces. Personally just pull it off and take it down and have it powder coated.

I have been using Mothers "Back to Black" on my chin spoiler, hood scoop and all other plastic trim and it works great.

Isn't the Mach 1 hood scoop metal?
Back to Black works ok on plastic, not so good on metal.
Meguiar's Trim Gel works a little better on plastics.
Try a good cleaner wax, and work it in good by hand. Meguiar's ColorX or Meguiar's #66 should do the trick for you.
If you need some help, let me know.

Yes, the scoop is metal. There are a bunch of guys who also use it on the hood scoop and it works suprisingly well. If I coat it with the Back to Black, it will stay nice for probably 2 weeks or so. I haven't tried to use a cleaner wax yet so I'll give that a try as well as the Meguiar's Trim Gel. I prefer Meguiar's products over Mothers anyways.

If it's metal and painted, and you're putting Back to Black on it. Then you are not protecting the paint like a wax is designed to. Back to Black and Meguiar's Trim Gel are not designed to protect paint.
Even though it may look good, you could be doing long term harm to the paint on your scoop.

It is going to be a bitch to get the wax out of all those little crevasses, the scoop is not smooth it is ruff and textured feeling.
