It sucked, if you want to waste your money go ahead. It's probably just as bad as the Blair Witch movie. It's shot from someone holding a fucking camcorder the entire time, it makes you queasy. They only show the monster for a few seconds of the entire movie and when they do the camera is constantly shaking and moving around and the ending makes it look like there should be more, people were actually BOOOOOING when it was over! HAHA! Well it's not funny it sucked!   ...'H'

I don't understand people who need every minute detail of a story explained to them. That would have detracted from the film, rather than added to it.

That's what I've been reading from reviews. I'm going to try to see it this weekend sometime.

I wish I had more to say about it but it's one of those things you just have to see for yourself. They left a ton of unanswered questions. It was so blunt and chaotic, there was no explanation for what was happening and why. I think that was one of the cool things about it. Humans always have to have an explanation and reason for everything and you don't get one. It's everyday normal life and then BAM, total fucking chaos, run for your lives, every man for himself. The 'wtf' silence in the theater at the end of the movie was kind of refreshing.

here is the movie: (spoiler in white text)

>>A guy is thrown a going away party, an unexplained 60 story tall monster starts destroying Manhattan, they run, the entire time being filmed by a hand held video camera. <<
That will be $20 please.

I stayed through the credits just to see if J.J. was going to pop up on screen to apologize and issue a $20 gift card.

I enjoyed the movie becuase it wasn't a typical lame monster movie. We didn't have cliche scientists spewing convenient and unbelievable storyline to how the monster was created or where it came from (pick pretty much any zombie or monster movie). It's a monster, and it came from the water, what else do you NEED to know. And of course it's going to run amok. I'm also glad they didn't invent some ridiculous way to kill it. Like a colgate filled missile, because they discover flouride reacts with the monsters blood and kills it.

The documentary style filming made things appear more realistic, because you're seeing everything from a charactors point of view. Give you a feeling you're immersed in the scenes. The movie was less about the monster and more about them rescuing the chick and trying to flee to safety. I just wish the ending was less abrupt. The movie did not give good closure at all.

Not a really great movie, but definantly kept my interest with all the action. That's my take on the movie.

I saw the matinee Friday morning, then the wife dragged me back that night to a fucking chick flick. Anyhoooo....

I overheard some kids that worked there bitching about all the unanswered questions like what it was and where it came from. None of them saw the object fall from the sky in the last clip. I even told some friends that went tonight to "watch the horizon" in the last scene..it was a good ending and definitely left it wide open for more.

okay... after doing some reading, there is more to this movie than just the theatrical release, like I had hoped. Some of you may know J.J. Abrams work on the tv show 'LOST', which I am a big fan of, and the primary reason I went to see Cloverfield. J.J. likes to put tiny hints and hidden clues in LOST so I was paying close attention to any little things that seemed to catch my eye. I didn't find anything while watching the movie other than a Nokia poster in the subway that had particular words being blocked from view by the characters. Something to the effect of 'call them now'. Was what was displayed.

There are many things I missed apparently:
There's slusho.jp (a Japanimation-heavy site pushing a fake frozen drink), jamieandteddy.com (which hosts personal videos from two of the characters, the password is jllovesth), tagruato.jp (advertising a phony research and deep-sea drilling company) and tidowave.com (an anti-Tagruato Web site created by environmentalists).

A character in the show 'Heroes' is actually seen holding a Slusho drink in the show.

Some of the characters in the movie even have myspace pages.

All of this makes me feel a little better about the film, but it still doesn't make the movie any better for me, and it kinda disappoints me to think this is a movie that needs sequential movies to be good.

No streak from the sky or anything...just a little bit of whitecapping water. I'm going with the theory that they created Cloverfield from around the area of that drilling rig and whatever special ingredient that slusho shit has in it. :D

I can't believe nobody mentioned this. At the begining of the movie they feel what appears to be an Earthquake, when they go out on the balcony, you see the big explosion, that must have been when the creatures ship crash landed on manhatten island, eh...it still sucked and most of America agree's since it opened with a lot of hype, then premature ejaculated.

BTW wheres idrive4queers defending this bullshit movie now?

I find your theory full of holes, where did anyone say it came from the ocean? They feel an earthquake (could be something falling from space causing a sonic boom) and then when they go out to the balcony they see the explosion? What exploded, then they run outside (downstairs) and they see the statue of liberties head come crashing through the street. So maybe it crash landed, then it jumped into the ocean, saw Ms. Liberty, got pissed and knocked its head off....STILL SUCKED! Oh and you are the minority  lol!...'H'

I'm sure you do, but just do some reading on it and fix yourself. It doesn't make much sense that a completely organic creature, without a single ounce of technology, flew here on a intergalactic space ship. lmao

If you watched closely, and followed the previews, you would know a couple things. That night of the party was not the first appearance of the monster. Before then, it had attacked and sunken an oil rigger...but that was written off as a freak natural disaster. And even before that (if you watch the coney island footage of Rob and Beth) you can get a glimps of a supposed "baby" monster splashing the water. This was also alluded to by the film's director.

And I may be in the minority of this thread, but across the nation...you are. Like I said, this movie really grates with the episodic boars who cannot enjoy anything without resolve.

I talked about this. now if they havea sequel talking about what the monster is, if and when it gets killed, where it came from, what its doing, you know all the shit i was looking for from the movie it will be ok. No plot, really no story except for the 5 retards in the movie - one who shoulda died a long time ago and only a story that builds up the characters later to kill them. OH and the first 30 minutes or so of the movie when its a fucking going away party LAME! And im sorry, if a girl i "LOVED" was out there and that huge ass monster wasn't dying, like hell im going out to find her having NO IDEA where she is. she coulda gotten ate for all you know. when they make the movie seem like a horror film or action/sci-fi film and it becomes a documentary type film filled with motion sickness to many who watch it, THEN it becomes a problem, not because there is no resolve. Ive seen plenty of good movies without resolve that had a PLOT, a believable story of sort and where the characters weren't IDIOTS. no wonder why there wasn't a big name in the movie. They probably read the script and said "this is career suicide".

Let's see - good acting, an ORIGINAL storyline (when was the last time we saw one of those?), nonstop action, guns bombs and aircraft fighting a 300-foot monster from space, interesting first-person perspective, and a chick that bleeds from her eyes and then explodes.

This movie could easily be another Godzilla remake. The acting was average, the storyline was boring and predictable, the constant screaming and yelling of the characters names was completely annoying, not to mention the Blair Witch (which also sucked) camera shaking and perspective.

J.J. Abrams still owes me $18.

The director himself says he wanted it to be a Godzilla for Americans and you go in expecting different?

Good call :o

I purposely avoided any mention of the movie before it came out, I didn't want to be influenced by anyone else's opinion before seeing it for myself.

The real issue here is that everyone saying that it was original needs to know that the director himself said that it is basically a remake of Godzilla (for Americans).

Hmmm.. well, I'll be sure to speak eloquently in low tones the next time a monster rampages my city so I don't annoy you, Tim.

That's cool. Just know that the movie that you think is so original is actually a remake that has been remade several times already. ;)
