Don't have any experience in aviation, but have a deep passion for it, and i'm mechanically inclined. Just looking to get my foot in the door somewhere, doing pretty much anything with aviation. Parts, fueling, sales, whatever. Hell, i'll even wash em. ;)

So if anyone that is in aviation can help me get started, i would greatly appreciate it.

do you have your A&P? Also, aviation does pay well if you are in the right places.

Can be tough to find. 25+ years ago I was out of work and looking for a job. My dad was working at LTV (was LTV/VOUGHT then) at the time and had told me if you can get into aviation its a cleaner line of work than auto mechs.

I went to Redbird Airport with my then pregnant girlfriend (nothing says you need a job more than taking a pregnant chick huh?) and proceeded to go hangar to hangar looking. Finally, I met the shop supervisor at Modern Aero of Texas. Told him I was mechanically inclined and that my dad works at LTV. Wasn't sure if it was my girlfriends belly or what but they hired me for $2/hr than my last job. No A&P tickets, trade schooling, no nothing. They put me working next to a bunch of ex LTV guys rebuilding wrecked airplanes.

That one break was the beginning of a 15 year career in aircraft sheet metal/structure and heavy damage repair. It put my son thru private school and helped pay for most of my college education.

I dont know who they are called now but Associated Air Center at Love Field might be a start or even McDonnell Douglas in GP. There are lots of privately owned FBO's and repair stations at the smaller airports. Try Executive, Arlington and Grand Prairie airports. If you know a pregnant chick, bring her along. It worked for me :D

Working in avaition will wreck your personal interest in aviation, It has for me. You'll quickly find out aviation is just another business. But try to get in through the parts network, check Aviall, Eurocopter, Dallas Airmotive, Avatas, Pratt & Whitney & GE, as well as some of the fractional operators at Addison Airport, such as Net Jets. Also Freight Forwarders such as Cherry Air, Martinair.

Well, i'll check some of those places out. Most of them i have tried, but no luck. Not all of them though. and i think i'll be ok working in that field, and still loving them. My passion for them is mostly on fighter aircraft, so i'm good. ;)

try to find a company first that is willing to invest some time into helping you get started. People are retiring everyday so they need new people that want to start from the ground up. Decide on what specific area you would like to focus on engines airframe etc research some companies that do that kind of work and see if they have some kind of apprentice program. I went to school and got my A&P but i wish i would have found a company first and then got the license. Good luck with it aviation is up and down and your not gonna get rich starting out

american eurocopter in GP does all the avionics for airbus. Or so I have been told. The avionics facility is pretty large.

If your wanting to get into Maint. then go get a job out at Associated at Love in the Sheetmetal shop or the tool room and get into an A&P program somewhere. Try Bell in Hurst, good pay, great benefits.

If you wanting to fly goto TSTC in Waco and get your flying crap done down there. It's a state school so you can get finacial aid from them plus you get an associates degree. They also have a good A&P program. Or you can put yourself in serious debt and goto one of the pilot factories in Fl.

I'm a pilot over at Expressjet right now and the last group that we hired had a few 500 hour guys in it. I got hired there with 3200 hours. I flew banners in Fl. and the crusty old freight dogs out of Love and Addison for a few years to get my time. You definately HAVE to commit to it if you want to do it. It's a good life and you get to do alot of cool shit and see some beautiful things but it turns into a job pretty quickly once the shine wears off.

Oh and if you've got a DWI/DUI or have a record buy a book and look at the pictures as far as the flying goes.

Used to be Associated Air Center same as I mentioned previously; but I think Piedmont bought the FBO, all their hangars and flight line service some time back. They were just down the ramp from Dalfort aviation who is probably gone now as well.

I'll see if I can get you a contact there

Problem is without a A&P it is going to be real hard to get a job anywhere. You will have to go to school first and get your licensce. They have a school at love field and maybe at some of the other CC's.

L3 Communications hires none A&P because it's a repair station. Repair Station means you don't need a licenses.

L3 is located in Greenville.

I would like to remind ya'll, that i am not just looking for something that requires an A&P. If its a repair station, fueling, whatever. I just want to be around planes, or have something to do with them. ;)

just go to all the airports around you and apply at the various FBO's for a fueling spot or a lineman.
