Besides, its not the consumer who needs the bailout, its the banks and bond insurers. Most people can still qualify for a credit card or loan, but banks are losing money faster than they are gaining it so there isn't much to lend. The problem isn't about liquidity, its about solvency.

Don't be scared, socialized banking is great! It will go hand in hand with the national ID card, imagine having the luxury of being forced to use your ID to pay for everything while at the same time being assured illegals and terrorists will no longer be a problem. Under democrat administrations SUV owners will be limited to $20 worth of gas per week and under republican administrations the NSA and DHS get a digital receipt for everything we buy. Exactly right, otherwise you have a society of people who have been around for centuries that have no real industry and the people are lazy and still live in squalor, with dictators or religious leaders who live in palaces.
