Only one I found listed on Crutchfield was the highest end Kenwood with the DVD screen. Any others on the lower end, say sub $250 with MP3 and 3 preouts that have RDS...? My Ex's Jeep had it and a rental I had the other day had it and I really liked the feature for telling me what the song was.
Thanks!

Years ago I had a top-end Alpine that had it. The feature really hasn't done well in the US.

What exactly is RDS?
Radio Data System...shows station info, song and artist... Most upgraded factory units have it but looking for an aftermarket one and only find it on the $500+ models... :(

Oh, okay. My last couple of Alpines have had that. I figured it was pretty standard. Some stations don't label everything, I've found.

W200 and W205, you should know. :D
I don't know if it's called RDS, but they showed/show the station/artist/track info if the station allows for it. Same with CDs.
Now you have me second guessing if the W200 did it or not. I know for a fact that my 205 does it because I see it every day. It's been a while since I switched, but I honestly don't remember a time without it, lol.

Are we talking HD/Satellite or regular radio?

It may just be because I have HD radio, now that you mention it. I thought it was doing it before, but now I'm not sure.

I can tell you that my W200 (without HD) does not display RDS information.

I see. So it doesn't display any info at all for any stations? I guess I just don't remember it being that way.
I don't think it's that cool of a feature, personally.
RDS was is Europe in the early 90's. Alpine began putting it on their U.S. model radios but U.S. stations did not support it so Alpine took it off. Kenwood has offered it for years on some decks, usually higher end CD and video. HD Radio does broadcast artist, title, etc but as with RDS, you're at the mercy of the radio station to keep up with accurate data. Since most factory radios now offer RDS, I would expect it to start showing up on aftermarket decks again soon.

My last two Kenwoods have had hit, but it's pretty hit or miss on whether the station provides the programming info.

I think it would be cool. I know on the occasions that I do listen to regular radio and I hear a song I'm not familiar with I'd like to know the artist and song title just so I can download/but it later.

I think you covered this once before on the HD Radio thread didn't? Anyway, I think it's a shame more radio stations don't broadcast the information and that more radio manufactures don't offer it :(

Get an HD radio tuner and you'll have it.

Not necessarily...most of the ones I have seen do NOT have RDS...only on the HD stations with the HD signal...just need to figure out if the two stations I listen to also broadcast in HD...
The HD Radio info is not RDS as far as I know but most HD channels are broadcasting similar info. If the channel is not HD, then you will have no text and if the channel is not HD, they need to move out of the stone age.

I can't think of any stations I listen to that don't display text. Maybe it's not called RDS.
