Samsung BD-UP5000 Bluray/HD-DVD Combo Player (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8532082&type=product&id=1186007992533)
Anybody have one of these, or any combo player? I am currently thinking of buying one, but am not sure if I want to spend that much on something when one format might be on its way out. I haven't seen anymore updates in the bluray/hddvd war lately. Any suggestions?

You can buy an xbox 360 and a PS3, and games for less than that, play both HD formats and have two gaming consoles. Fuck that. Hell, you can probably find two stand alones for half of that price. You'd be wasting money foir the sake of a single player. I guess it all comes down to how much of a baller you are.
Be patient. The war will be over soon. My bets are on Bluray.

Well the only reason I am considering it is because I tried to order it when they launched for $799 last month and they screwed my order up. They are going to sell it to me for $799 and let me use my 10% off coupon making it $719. On top of that I have $130 in Reward Zone points to use. So actually I will be paying $589 plus tax. That is the only reason I am considering buying it now.

Thats a good deal! What these other guys don't know shit about is this has the HQV (Hollywood Quality Video) chip in it, granted it is the low end chip and not the bad ass one that comes in the more expensive Denon Blu Ray only players, but it will still do an incredible job of upconverting regular DVDs to HD, so you don't even really have to replace your entire movie collection which will save you thousands in the long run... I have the HD Xbox and PS3 and neither up-convert half as well as any player with a HQV chip... ;)

The mid-high-end Onkyo receivers have the Reon HQV chip as well. The Toshiba HD-XA2 and some others that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Just this past week at Best Buy our ad team took down an entire wall of projection tv's to put up just 4 50 inch lcd's. Hooked up to two are a blu-ray player and ps3, hooked up to the other two were HD-DVD players. They are now pulling down the HD-DVD players and putting up all Blu-ray players. Thats not just at our store either, just a matter of months before they start pulling outta stores. It really would be a waste to buy an HD-DVD player at this point.
