how do i save DVD to my computer?

is there a way? i'd like to take some of the movies ive got on disk and have them readily available (read backed up in case someone walks away with them) on my computer... ive got XP media center, so i'm assuming it's gotta be possible.

there are a ton of different ways. Just google, DVD Backups.

I use a Mac and use Handbrake. A windows version was recently put out but I don't know how good it is. Just Google Handbrake and DVD and you'll find it.

Best of all, it is freeware.

I rip them to an iso using magic iso... search on google... there are lots of tutorials out there on how to do it

Is there a way to burn them off the cd and play them on windows media player? Like an XVID? I used that I just tried using dvd shrink and I tried opening the files but it wont let me.

do a search in yahoo... dvd to xvid ... its really not hard to find out how to do these things. to many different ways.. find a tutorial and stick with it

There isn't a way to legally.
Technically it is not illegal to make a backup of a DVD you own. The illegal part is breaking the encryption put on the dvds. Problem is most dvds have the encryption. ;)
