I am wandering if these mods will be enough to get my car to break into an 11.99 or faster. The new mods are Aluminum radiator, race shocks( gonna set at 80/20 front and 50/50 back for now), and cal trac suspension bars. The car weighs 3200 lbs w/driver and nothing else is changing right now.

This is a N/a 289 with a manual 4 speed in a 65 mustang on a 26X8 hoosier slick..
The old setup was the same except steel 3 row radiator, STOCK suspension with traction bars.

Best old time slip
60'=1.783
330=5.089
1/8= 7.835 @90.55
1000=10.214
1/4=12.223 @112.21 mph

I would kinda look at it like this. If my mph is above average for my et, then I would say that the car wasn't efficent in getting the power to the ground. I would look at others that run close to the same et and see what their mph is. If your mph is low for your et, I would say its not going to get any quicker till you have more power.

you have room in you 60ft to gain a tenth or so, but you would probably have to have PERFECT conditions and a perfect run. It is possible, but you are going to have to row some gears and 60ft like never before... with your mph you are on the bubble!

We also plan to do some tuning with the valve lash and diff spark plugs next time out but we are going to run it first like it is to see how much the suspension helped. The weight difference in radiators is about 15-20 lbs if i had to guess so it probably wont make much of a diff.

According to the math calculator, YES the car has it in. you need to get those 60 ft times Down. cut a 1.61 like i can and you'll have that 11.99 pass or better.

Whats up you still want to run me at the Denton on the 24th?

Naw i promised my girl i wouldnt race until after our wedding on march 15th. We had a scare ( bad knock) that we thought was the motor going bad the other week. Lucky enough it was just a rocker stud. We dont want to chance hurting the car before the wedding because we are going to drive away in the car.

My parents drove away from their wedding in the same car 34 yrs ago so it means quite a bit to us.

On another note after i get back from the honeymoon we can race whenever u want but im pretty sure i cant hang with a 7.40.

I assume you are carb. Might try a 750-800cfm. Old 289's love to be over carb. They just seem to run harder. Also increase timing to a total of 36 if its not aready there (and fuel will let you)

I think you just need to do a T5 swap in it and you will be there and change the rear gears to 373s or 410s. That tranny is killing you off the line and all your other gears are right after the other.

x2 that trans is junk for drag racing......and with 90mph in the 1/8th i would figure you would do more than 112 in the 1/4

I trapped 113 when I was trapping 89mph in the 1/8th.

BTW the way we better hurry up and run me. I may have just a got a deal on a Auto setup. If i decide to install it, you'll defineitely need the bottle to catch me :D

Oh and i just realized i probably won;t make the race on the 24th, i'll be installing my head after getting some stuff done to it.
