anyone have any unique ideas for hiding wires besides run them up inside the wall to the attic then down behind the reciever?

Put up some crown molding, and hide them behind it

They also make a type of baseboard, that is hollow. You can run your wires through them, and can paint to match your wall.

You can try pulling back the carpet from the tack strip and see if the gap between the existing baseboard and floor is big enough, depending on how many wires and how thick they are of course. Sometimes you don't even have to pull up the carpet. Other than that the ideas above are good. You can also buy panduit that attaches with double-sided tape. like this (http://www.panduit.com/products/browse.asp?classid=82)

Best Buy and Lowes have some cool ways of hiding wires that are made for mounting Flat screens....most are paintable, too.
